Out of 14 servers... if about 3-4 are lost, then this probably won't be much of a big deal.

If 7 or more are lost, however, I'd be surprised if anyone is still willing to say that this MMO is going as strongly as they had hoped for the NA/EU audience back in late 2009.

Either way, all the anecdotal "My server is CROWDED WTF are you guys talking about?!" Aion diehards that have been vocalizing in some comments on other articles have just been unceremoniously schooled.

About 5k (from aions lists of per level people at primetime) and change active subs (not counting revolving door subs) 13 servers down to.................2-3? gives them 1800 per server to mess with, be my guess. you could actually put all subs on one server and be good. Look at the cost savings.

1.9 isnt going to save this title, and it wont bring in the needed new subs. A better MMO just released a huge expansion, and it is getting forum raped about the excessive grind and false promises. Aion will fare even worse.

Folks should cut their losses, integrate back into society and wait for something better (heh)

When I heard the tease about something that would effect every player I knew it must be a server merge. But I don't really see that as anything bad. Less servers means condensing the player base, which means seeing more people randomly.

The more I see about Aion the more I want to give it a shot, but I'm still wary of the claims that it's a grind-fest :/

In all honesty if you are truly going to play the game I'd wait til around patch 2.0 is gonna hit when new content is gonna be coming. Patch 1.9 is pretty much just making the game easier for people to acquire stuff with a few new skills and ways to upgrade gear.

I'm waiting for the 2.0 too. I could resub for a month and check it out maybe. I recommend waiting until 2.0

Ameliorate, it's a grind-fest. Fun for a while until you hit that part tho!

So... one week between NA test and live? And I thought NCSoft and Cryptic went separate ways.

"So... one week between NA test and live?"

You seem to be forgetting that this patch has already been on Korean test servers for a while, it would be a waste of time for them to take the current version of the patch and test it for more than a week or two because of that. At most its just a screening for any bugs that might of slipped through, as well as translational errors.

@devilsei
I was thinking that it would take far more than a week just for the differences in localization much less any bugs this might introduce. Just sayin'. :)

Ahh heh, quite alright then. They've already had the patch notes translated for us for a while, so who knows how long exactly they've been working on the patch before it hits test servers.

My guess is that that 1/4th of the servers on the NA side will be merged. Zikel is dead on the asmodian side. They might also be waiting for patch 1.9 to see if population comes back before they make the final decisions. But Zikel will most likely be 1 of the servers to get merged.

Its funny to see how all the fanboy claims about its thriving community are complete lies.

Someone at blizzard is likely posting this as a memo getting a good laugh. Wowkiller #2497 bites the dust.

There's already been an official statement from NCSoft detailing how poorly the game has been performing outside of Asia:

http://www.aionsource.com/topic/110982-announced-release-dates-for-19-20/

Highlights:
"Aion was down 21% quarter on quarter but up 67% year on year. As opposed to a solid domestic user base, Aion in overseas markets experienced the decline of active accounts resulting from natural decline and massive elimination."

"As for the Aion performance in the Western market, I should have mentioned that the number of active users has declined since the launch of the retail package in September and October last year."

Who truly believes that Aion will survive for 2yrs with a healthy population? Once Guild Wars 2 comes out majority of the left players will jump ship especially if GW2 is going to be free to play.

Although I cannot comment on the playerbase of Aion, having never played it, I would be wary about proclaiming Guild Wars 2 as the coming messiah.

If the past has shown us anything, it's that developer hype and teaser videos are a poor source of information for how a game will legitimately play.

However, I won't say I'm not excited to check it out!

Read some of the forums about the people that say once GW2 comes out they will be quitting Aion. People have more trust in ArenaNet in the US than they do in NCsoft running Aion in the US. Plus if it's free to play it will more than likely suck out more of the Aion users. I'm personally just waiting on WoW expansion and Tera.
