Well, I would LIKE to be playing it.
I PAYED to be playing it.

But, sadly, the game CTD when exiting any of the Settings dialogs.

No help yet from support.

My trip to AoC tech support forums was, to say the least, horrifying.

YOU may be playing, but I (and a whole lot of others) sure cannot.

Yeah, the free trial program CTD on two separate computers for me. Quickest way to nip the adoption process in the bud - buggy software.

Never tried it, never will.

I've been playing the heck out of AoC! I am a lifer to LotRO and STO as well, but right now, AoC is getting my full attention.

What I'm enjoying...

Khitai and the Khitan! Wow, this is cool to finally have a game other than Vanguard that has a proper oriental-based expansion in a major MMO!

Khitai Gateway: What an amazingly beautiful zone. And I love the quests and the rewards. They're just challenging enough and some require your friends to help out, which is always a great time!

Khitan armor: OMG is all I can say. Looks great!

There are a ton of people playing, which makes for a little bit of server lag now and then. Maybe if this keeps up Funcom can re-roll out a couple of it's old / new servers! I suspect as word-of-mouth spreads about this expansion more and more people will return.

I'm also having fun exploring the old content with my main and other alts., so all-in-all, not bad Funcom! Even, though I was a big critic of the way AoC launched and it's torrid past, I have to say Funcom has really started to turn this ship in the right direction.

Innocente can you post the link to your support post you made in the AoC forums?

Also go to to start\run and type dxdiag so we can see what system you have. That might help. Here are my specs on an older system that does well.

Already in contact directly with tech support and they have all DxDiag and Logs. Process has been ongoing since the 12th, when I received the AoC:RotG and encontered this problem. All video and sound drivers are up-to date. I can play the game as long as I don't want to change any of the default settings.

There are 2 exe files in the AoC folder -- one for DX10. Have you tried launching from that exe or -- if you're already launching from that exe -- the original exe?

I am also one of the many who cannot play because of ....I have no idea, Before the expansion I was playing on my current machine without a problem. Now I cant even get it past the load screen as its loading content. It also takes a huge amount of time to just get to the charactar screen, over fifteen minutes. I asked for my money back knowing what the answer would be and I was right. I just want to play the game I payed for =(

Option error seems like a Vista/Win7 UAC thing. As for long load... thats an old bug, wonder how it came back but only for some configs.

Coverage of Rise of the Godslayer has died down because it's a great weekend article obviously. ;) Not quite as much to report on weekends.

Gateway to Khitai is alright, content wise it is nice, but it is a very bland zone when compared to what lies beyond the great wall.

Everything beyond the great wall is fantastic, the dungeons are amazing and the scenary beautiful. But it is flawed, the items are worse than raid gear and will take even the most hardcore person much much longer to acquire than a full set of raid gear.

So, I love everything about it, but the pointless grind for less than great items.

"the items are worse than raid gear" ? Were you expecting purples to rain from the sky the moment you set foot in Khitai? This isn't Burning Crusade mate. And I know for a fact that you haven't got any of the higher tier faction armors yet, any of the new AA abilities and are no where near getting into the new tier of raid. The expansion was designed to extend and broaden the level 80 content, not make everything before it obsolete overnight.

So before you start moaning about things being pointless, try playing for more than a couple of days and expecting everything to fall into your lazy lap.

I've been playing the hell out of AoC the last week or so, there are tons of people around, leveling up and in the new zones and I'm having the best time I've ever had in this game.

Here you go MrLee, a list of most of the items you can obtain from the factions.

Faction items: http://aoc-is.better-than.tv/factions.php

If you'd bothered to explore any of the new content you would've seen that all of their items are available from the vendors in their main camps. Now I don't know of all the drops that are happening, the few I've had have been slightly worse than you get from old world level 80 dungeons, but I suspect there might be some nice stuff further in.

But nothing on the faction vendors appears to be up there with the old world raid armour, so the question is, why should someone, like me, who has raid armour, bother trying to get these faction pieces?

If you'd read what I wrote you'd see that I'm having fun and think it is a great expansion, I'm just saying that the items don't appear to be worth it, especially when you need to run hundreds of dungeons, if not thousands to get a full set of dungeon faction armour.

First of all, I haven't been down every item and checked every stat against every other and I don't intend to. I just picked out one thing from the list you provided (thanks for the link) and the same clase/slot item from current Tier 1 raid gear (http://aoc.wikia.com/wiki/Shatush_of_the_Ecliptic) for a random class that happens to be Demonologist.

Demo Tier 1 Chest:
+77.5 Max Health
+7 Natural Mana Regen
+140 Max Mana
+11.7 Intelligence
+21 Defense Rating
(and some small amounts of Invulnerability ratings)

vs

[Brittle]Blade's Tunic of Arcane Death
603 Armor
377 Critigation Amount

+52 Constitution (which translates to 416 health points)
+57 Intelligence
+54 Magic Damage
+55 Hit Rating
+55 Critical Rating
+66 Critical Damage Rating

Now if you ignore the very important new stat of Critigation (which you won't be able to ignore if you want to do expansion raiding/dungeons) and just take the other stats into account, are you really not seeing the upgrade? And don't forget this isn't raid gear, this is stuff you can get from regular dungeons.

Like I said I haven't compared every item in the expansion with every available raid gear item so maybe each and every one isn't miles better but you can't say they are pointless either because they clearly aren't.

The point of the expansion isn't to make all the old world stuff useless, it's to give people more options. You want to carry on getting raid gear, that's fine. Other people prefer to do smaller dungeons that take less time and people to organise. Now everyone has some choices.

It doesn't fix the problems with the game and that is the core mechanics aren't fun, the world design still sucks, have to run Tortage, no crafting worth mentioning, PVP sucks and the combat is really wonky with really unbalanced classes.

I'll stick to my plan of waiting it out for SWTOR.

The only thing I saw there that had any credibility was "have to run Tortage". The rest is highly subjective, and evidently not popular opinion.

Although I will concede that crafting needs some work.

Hey man, I'm all about respecting opinions. But at least make your irreverent game-bashing credible with some perspective.
