Okay fans, you can finally sit back and quit wearing out the the edge of your seat. Star Wars: The Old Republic has revealed its first species. That's right! In an exclusive play session with TheGalacticStruggle.com Bioware revealed the first non-human species whose story you will be able to tell: Rattataki. This pale-skinned Near-Human species from the Guter Wade system in the Outer Rim is the same as the infamous Asajj Ventress of the Clone War series. Although Jake Neri, SWTOR producer for Lucasarts, admitted that the customization options will not be as in-depth as features found in Star Wars: Galaxies but there will be some variety for players.
In another exclusive -- this time from Eurogamer -- Bioware unveiled information regarding "Advanced Classes". It seems each of the 8 major classes will be split into 16 advanced career choices. According to Eurogamer, "Each Advanced Class will have its own skills and abilities that define its role on the battlefield, and in some cases grant access to new weapon and armour types." For instance, the Sith Warrior class is broken into either the Juggernaut or Marauder careers. This will not affect the story of your character, but it will determine the role your character plays in group combat.
[Update: Advance Classes information is now on the official site]

What the hell is up with the bitching in here? Man, they release one alien species and suddenly it is the end of the world. The game isn't due to release until sometime in 2011, and we have simultaneous bitching about how they are hyping it too much and that they aren't releasing more alien-like races. I think most of you just want to cry because...I don't know. It's just another game and another chance to act like an ass.
How exotic do you think alien species are going to get? Bioware has to make armor models for all the different races...do you honestly think you're going get the Sith Marauder Hutts? Or maybe some of those space worms from Episode V in bounty hunter gear, rolling around and using crates as cover.
By all means, go play something else that is up to your apparent high standards of quality...so high in fact that you can accurately review a game you haven't played that is a year off from release.

I would have to agree with T...
Im no Bioware or Star Wars fanboy, but theres some serious harshness going on around here. Come on guys, they released ONE race. I think it is a safe bet that most of the races will be at least humanoid; think of these Rattataki as the elves of the SW universe and move on.
Im sure there will be Rodians, Twi-Leks...I agree that this game is receiving a little too much press for the small amount of information available. But its a huge IP, a very successful developer, and there are high hopes riding on it.
So sit back, enjoy the flow of information, and reserve your judgment for later.
(Unless they give us Gungans. In which case, Im totally in - forget about Jar Jar; the pseudo japanese-rastafari amphibians are totally cool in my books)

Reading forum posts on ANY mmo site produces the same exact results man ;) Usually due to being some guy sitting at work/school/jail library pissed of that hes not playing his drug of choice RIGHT NOW! That and basic adolescent impatience. You'll get used to it and learn not to read anything thats not a "blue" post in the comments.
Still not as bad as youtube comments but also way more repetitive. On a lighter note just find any mmo post and type the response "WoW does that way better". Sit back and watch the fireworks. I have gotten through many a boring meeting that way!

The MMO multiple race design process:
Take basic human.
Change one thing about human that isn't common in humans as a whole.
NEW RACE!

Except BioWare didn't invent this race, so it wasn't part of creation for "the MMO multiple race design process". Blame the SW Universe for having so many near-humans at a feigned attempt at exoticness. Oh well, at least SW aliens look more alien than the Star Trek Playdoh-faced aliens.

Meh...cool, yet underwhelming. And that's kind of disappointing hearing that character customization isn't as in depth as an old game..lol that seems really silly and is something that may hurt them. If they're putting all this money and have so much riding on this game, and want to deliver an truly immersive experience one would think they would spend some time in one of the fundamental systems in a MMO. Especially when they're going up against games that are offering very extensive personalization of your characters.

Blame the popularity of Asajj Ventress, who is a Ratataki

I am sure that other races will be announced in due time.
As for people with the harsh comments. Well thats the interwebs for you.
Anonymity = rude behavior.

I don't know, can't you have a Wookie and say the voice acting is from some type of universal translator or something?
