Okay fans, you can finally sit back and quit wearing out the the edge of your seat. Star Wars: The Old Republic has revealed its first species. That's right! In an exclusive play session with TheGalacticStruggle.com Bioware revealed the first non-human species whose story you will be able to tell: Rattataki. This pale-skinned Near-Human species from the Guter Wade system in the Outer Rim is the same as the infamous Asajj Ventress of the Clone War series. Although Jake Neri, SWTOR producer for Lucasarts, admitted that the customization options will not be as in-depth as features found in Star Wars: Galaxies but there will be some variety for players.
In another exclusive -- this time from Eurogamer -- Bioware unveiled information regarding "Advanced Classes". It seems each of the 8 major classes will be split into 16 advanced career choices. According to Eurogamer, "Each Advanced Class will have its own skills and abilities that define its role on the battlefield, and in some cases grant access to new weapon and armour types." For instance, the Sith Warrior class is broken into either the Juggernaut or Marauder careers. This will not affect the story of your character, but it will determine the role your character plays in group combat.
[Update: Advance Classes information is now on the official site]

So basically another human model (not just a humanoid model but exactly a human model) but bald and different skin tones. Underwhelming.

You refer to an "exclusive" from the worst source available, Eurogamer? And you quote 'Lucasarts, admitted that the customization options will not be as in-depth as features found in Star Wars: Galaxies?' So, TOR has less character customization than a MMO that was release3d in 2003?
TOR has too much hype this early. TOR will probably not be released until at least Q3 2011. By then,. I'll have lost all interest in TOR. Extreme amounts of hype for a year or more, then... deliver a broken product? I hope not, but that reminds me of Vanguard and it's failure.
Best of luck, BioWare.

And WoW and all the other MMOs since have less crafting details than SWG that was released in 2003. SWG has one of the most complex(and fulfilling if you love to do it) crafting systems of any MMO I've played. I hope TOR tries to do a crafting system 1/10 as deep as SWG's, so I can die happy.

Just for fun, I did some quick math to see how much paper it'd take to cover the earth, land and sea. Numbers are approximate and mostly gained from quick google searches. I am perfectly aware they're exaggerating.
We'll start with one page, 8.5 inches by 11 inches. That's 93.5 square inches.
There are about 4,000,000,000 square inches in a square mile, which means you'd need 43 million pages just to cover a mile by mile area.
The Earth's about 200,000,000 square miles. If I haven't missed a decimal point, this adds up to needing 8,600,000,000,000,000 pages.
But how many pages is that?
The average internet webpage is 130kilobytes. Let's render those all as characters with 1 byte = 1 character. Per RFC678, you can fit 66 lines and 85 characters per line on a sheet of 8.5x11 paper. So the average internet webpage is 23 pages, and thus there are 21,130,000,000 pages (of paper) on the internet. So to cover the earth, you'd have to print out the internet 17,700 times.
That is one hell of a script :)

Isn't this game vapor ware until 2012? I think it has to much hype and how will they maintain it if it is 2012?

I am seriously disappointed that this is one of the species you can play. This is the freaking STAR WARS universe! They have unlimited characters to draw from and they choose this one which looks exactly like a human. How lame is that? Very.

BioWare long ago said that the playable races will be limited by the fact that they need races who can realistically be speaking the voice acting done by the actors for the player characters. Unless you know any Wookiees(minus Ralrra) or Ithorians who speak in perfect unaccented, unobscured English(or French or Spanish or German), then I'd say you should sit down and be thinking of all the cool near-human races we could get for TOR. :)

I must admit I was expecting something a lot more.. I dunno... different than simply a pale / bald human... Twil's or rodians or... something....

Lighten up.. Its a small preview.. Im sure there will be at least 10 species, Im guessing more.. As for the customization that too has yet to be released. Its a different engine. Some like Cryptic has a lot of options, yet certain aspects of gameplay blows.. I have a feeling we have plenty of options, yet gameplay will rock as well...

Disappointing... "the new not human species looks like a human!! YAAAAAA!"
And the "Advanced Careers" was already known. It wasnt called that though. When they revealed the Consular and Inquisitor, they talked about 2 talent trees, where the Consular would focus on either healing or dps/cc.
So again i say... Disappointing.

Actually there is a nice video that overviews multi-player interact and combat on SWTOR's site, if you're interested: http://www.swtor.com/media/trailers/developer-walkthrough Although this doesn't talk about how it works with companions.

The preview on the Bioware site from last year does an excellent job of showing the foundation of the game. You can clearly see that the combat system for multiple classes was in place and the mobs were acting in a reasonable manner. The animations/graphics were also very good for a pre-alpha build of the game.
I think that Bioware has done a very good job of releasing story background and gameplay previews so far. I hadn't seen the advanced class system yet, so that was new to me. As far as I can tell, the game appears to still be on track. We're seeing more gameplay previews of TOR vs other MMO previews where it was just a producer talking the whole time (AoC, TR, WAR).

While disappointing I think they are saving the more classic species for one big release.
And as Oskiee said we already new about the advanced classes. Smuggler also gets Gunslinger or Scoundrel. (although the names may have changed). We knew they exsisted wer just don't know how all the classes are broken down.
I have to say the title felt a bit misleading I thought all playable species had been anounced

I love Bioware games. However, expectation-wise, unless they pull something magical out of their rear, this is going on my back-burner until I'm bored of GW2.

I'd expect bigger info releases around E3. Can't give all the info away just yet. As long as I can play as a Wookie I will be happy.

I for one am very happy to hear about Advanced Classes. There's an ongoing rivalry in WoW between hybrids and pure DPS classes. Pures expect to get special treatment because they can't fulfill mutliple roles like hybrids can. What no one wants to discuss is that since pures have a single role, they can pick and choose from whatever skills they want from all their talent trees, whereas a hybrid has fewer choices in how to fulfill his or her chosen role.
This system is the best of both worlds. Every class in The Old Republic will have the versatility of a hybrid as well as the flexibility of a pure class. Yes, we knew the general idea for some time now, but it's still nice to see specifics like this. I never suspected that we would have multiple skill trees for each role. That's like a WoW warrior having a fourth talent tree dedicated to tanking. I for one think that's awesome.
And by the way, I'm totally gonna be a Juggernaut.
