Marvel fans, rejoice, your one shining MMORPG moment has been officially announced. Gazillion Entertainment today unveiled Super Hero Squad Online, which gives players the ability to master the talents of Marvel universe notables including Spider-Man, Wolverine, Hulk, Iron Man, War Machine, and more.
"Everyone who has wanted to be Silver Surfer, Wolverine, Captain America or any of the amazing Marvel heroes and villains will find the game has something for them," stated Jason Robar, Vice President and Studio Manager for The Amazing Society, the Gazillion subsidiary responsible for development of the title.
In addition to combat gameplay and the ability to don the tights of your favorite anti-hero, Super Hero Squad Online will feature social spaces and customization options. "You'll swing through Super Hero City as Spider-Man or zap the bad guys with Cyclops' optic blasts in high-voltage missions. Or you can just hang out in a high-energy, immersive world filled with other Marvel fans," said Creative Director Jay Minn.
Watch the official website for more details, and be sure to catch the teaser trailer debut this Friday, May 14th, at 12:30am on SPIKE's GameTrailers TV.

Nice that it has finally been announced..though I imagine the wait is still far from over.
Being abig MARVEL fan for decades this is definitely one Ill be checking out.
I am intrigued by the notion that rather than creating a unique hero avatar for ourselves, we play as existing heroes in the marvelverse. How much customisation will we get, will every iron man be the same as the next, will ever deadpool be the same as the next and how that will be immersionwise.
Seeing a 100 iron men doesnt exactly promote the idea of feeling special or unique when it comes to your iron man etc..

Also if you look on Gazillions site under the MMOs section of thier site Marvel Super Squad and Marvel Universe are listed separately?

That's correct Mark! There are two Marvel games coming out from Gazillion, not just one!
This is the more playful, kid-friendly version of the Marvel Universe. The other game is more along the lines of DC Universe and Champions Online.

Bwahahahaha.. that is funny. Well, at least it'll be something fer the little ones to play.
See what happens when Disney takes over Marvel ;)
That being said, I know Marvel has something for the older folks down the road, though the info is sparse on that one. Until then, make mine .... CoH.

Nah this is based off the cartoon/toyline of the same name, which was around before the Disney thing.

I’m pretty sure this is designed for little kids as a “gateway” mmo and they are also in the process of developing a real Marvel MMO as well.

Looks like Free Realms, something for the casual/kids/family segment, which is fine by me, we do have other superhero MMOs. The name is awful though.

This was a good laugh.
Honestly though I re-post this when the "Marvel Universe" MMO is revealed and I believe the "most" part of the statement will be closer to the truth. ;-P

Honestly, I'm not sure this is going to be quite an MMORPG in the same vein. It's fairly clear that it's going to have social aspects, but the press release explicitly states that the player will be in control of the popular Marvel characters. I don't think this is going to be the same type of game as the new Marvel Universe MMO that is in development, or CoX/CO/DCUO.
Either way, as a superhero gaming fan, I'm pretty excited.

Looks like the rumors were true, the ones that said that the fight that lead to the breakup of Marvel and Cryptic was over Marvel's insistence that players not be allowed to create their own characters.
Enjoy being the 79th chibi Iron Man to show up in any particular social space at any given time.

I remember hearing a long time ago that they were going to do Super Hero Squad for the little people AND a grown up MMO.
I personally love the idea of Super Hero Squad (and Star Wars Galactic Heroes) stuff. My boys (4 and 6) got the Wii version of the Super Hero Squad game and they love it. They watch the cartoon as well. It gives us something to bond about and they get introduced to all of the characters I grew up loving as a child.
Win, win.
I say give the little people their game, but please be sure to bring on the serious hero action for us grown ups.

Whats the fun in playing a super hero game with real heroes, I don't want a game where I have the hulk tanking a mob and 3 Wolverines dpsing.
