"one of New Eden's oldest and most insidious threats"

Jovians?

The Jovians aren't a threat, they're very much a benefactor to the four empires.

Well I hope they're not talking about the Bloody Hand of Matar, and the recent Amarrian politicking. Amarrian power struggles may be violent, but they're hardly a galaxy-wide or insidious threat. Although a second Matari uprising would be pretty cool...I don't really see how it is a "threat" per se.

@DrewIW No, the Devs hinted at Fanfest and in an interview that the Jovians weren't the benefactors we thought they were. I believe the interview hinted at hostile action by Jovians in the near future, which ties into this quite nicely. Hopefully Incarna will improve on the idea.

I have always felt that Eve is uniquely suited to host roleplaying events, but it's "hardcore" pvp reputation repelled alot of roleplayers, leaving an immense, lovingly crafted universe with so much back story very much sterile and "stats" driven.

Hopefully these live events will attract more roleplayers, female players, and pvers in general to Eve, broading its playerbase, which surely is a good news.

This just made my day

Dude, you don't know what you're talking about.

The oldest alliance in game is a RP one. The Amarr - Minmatar conflict has been going for 6 years, and very much driven by players - the EVE RP community is very active and very much alive. If anything CCP is constantly tripping over their own lovingly created backstory..

Hardcore PvP doesn't exclude RP... duhh..

SgtBaker:

No.

Your point is that RP alliances like CVA, UK, Star Fraction etc are as old as the Eve itself. Well no shit sherlock, but old =/= PvP focused or much of anything does it? In fact, it means exactly the opposite: RP in Eve in recent years has become stale, and unappealing to most of the playerbase - name me 1 recent or newly created major alliance that does RP and is PvP focused.

In contrast look at any of the alliance that's involved in the NC/SC fight say, what's going to matter more to them? Matari terrorism or changes to Minnie T2 ammo?

I rest my case. Next time learn to think about something logically before blindly disagreeing with someone. It cheapens your opinion.

Listen.
EVE has active and engaged roleplaying community.
EVE is a pvp game.
EVE RP is focused around pvp.

The reason there are no new large RP alliances? Same reason why there are no new large non-RP alliances.

Sure it would be great if we had big, relevant alliances for Caldari hardliner agenda and Gallente gay-rights-liberation - but the fact is, like everything in EVE, tends to be drawn towards the big stable alliances.

But maybe your dream comes true with Tyrannis and we soon see whole bunch of Empire carebears nurturing their dear planets.

For everyone else - despite the upcoming carebear-failure expansion - EVE is still a PvP game.. join one of the relevant RP alliances/corps and you'll see EVE still has plenty of good RP around.

"despite the upcoming carebear-failure expansion"

At least you're optimistic and not biased at all. We wouldn't want to engage (the huge) part of the community that thinks there's a PvE element to the game. I mean, who do they think they are, daring to do something that isn't PvP?!? The nerve!

SGT, UK and CVA never roleplay. You never see any roleplay posts, you never see them act in character in space once (and I was a in pet of paxton for a brief time) and the whole invasion of CVA space had zero to do with any roleplay roots, but an invasion of space that some alledge was an OOC act with the Goons. What was the RP justification given?

In 6 months I saw all of two tiny corps actually recruting for roleplayers. I would have loved to roleplay in it, hell. But its hard to impossible to in the game because people shoot first even targets that can't fight back, like industrials.

And honestly, this is nice but you know SOLODRAKBAN or maybe Helicity Boson will use it as an opportunity to gank all the players who show up. If people are willing to gank mining barges for being mining barges, this is gonna draw the "lolrp" crowd like moths to a flame.

Just an FYI, the events have already started as wormholes are opening over planets from which fleets of Sansha's Nation ships come through. The planets request help from any concord, local defense and capsuleer forces.

There are few things more fun than GM-hosted events, and I take my hat off to EVE online for deciding to bring them back. EVE relies heavily on player involvement to create the setting, and the intervention of planned events by GM teams that have more access to resources and can feasibly play any faction they want...well, that is just magic in my opinion.

That being said, I doubt I will re-sub to EVE any time soon. AoC and Lego Universe have me pretty tied up in the meantime. But by golly, if Incarna comes along any time this decade Ill be back in my Vexor auto-targeting NPC rats and blowing them to smithereens with my drones.

*chants* ALT-X to return drones before warp, ALT-X to return drones before warp, ALT-X to return drones before warp...

Time for me to dust off the signed Pax Amarria and fire up the Navpoc.

And this is where I become disheartened because of time zone issues. I would love to participate in live events, but they never--ever--happen at practical times for me.

*Sighs* Guess it can't be helped. I do hope this will add a bit more life into the EVE setting!

old threat sounds like Sansha himself might be alive and making a move....admittedly he might not be the oldest threat, but he was threatening.
