I am excited to get home and play this myself, unfortunately I must work for a living however. So i have a question for those that are more educated then me about the game. I just got a toon to level 20 a few nights ago, is there new content for my character in Khitai? or does that stuff come later?

I'm having a hard time deciding if I want to buy this now or wait a bit.. Servers might be unstable/bugs galore. Darnit, I wanna play!

For those ppl that actually are not drooling fanboys.
The expansion is not live yet.. Funcom has had problems (nothing new) with the servers and they will be down to 21:00 GMT (18 hours downtime) minimum now.
The Download servers are also down - meaning you are unable to download expansion and patches. The patch is about 3 gbs. So expect some extra time to get it with alot of ppl downloading at same time.
So... If you were actually thinking of playing the expansion tonight... dont be to dissapointed if you can't. Remember - this is Funcom.. Loads of technical issues was to be expected.
And finally - No ... you can not blame my computer for the extra downtime :D

I dont think anyone is naiive enough to expect that the game will be fully patched and playable the day of a major expansion.
What happens in the coming week will, no doubt, heavily influence the tide of feedback from their fans (and, more likely, their naysayers). But complaining about launch day setbacks is like complaining about a car crash at Nascar.

I wish they'd make it easier to buy this thing digitally. I've played the game before but as I'll be starting with a new character anyway I'm after a fresh account, but steam and the AoC official site will only let you buy the original game and then upgrade to the expansion, costing about £35. As the expansion boxed comes with the full original game anyway for £17 it's a much better deal.
Also the reason I'm not just updating my old account anyway as then I'd just have to buy the expansion on its own is I'd get no free month. It just seems odd that they'd offer such a high price direct from them when the RRP they give to retailers for a much more complete product is about half the price.

Try playing Eve Online. When it is down...it is down. I could care less how long it takes as long as it is done right. On a side note I installed logmein so I can update it from work. Did anyone get billed yet for the digital pre order?

Anyone who's played enough MMOs knows not to expect a game to be functional on patch day, and definitely not on an expansion day. Hopefully things get going later tonight so we can at least look at character creation or some such. ;)
Curious as to why the patching server(s?) is down though. Seems like one thing Funcom could do to lighten the load on their system is to let people download throughout the day, rather than storm it as soon as it's opened.

I am still a bit hesitant to try AoC again, i resubbed a couple months ago to find that the game has VASTLY improved but the community was absolutely awful. Always awesome to get your 20+ camped by 80s in zelata to get their k/d ratio up.
