It's a crying shame since I'm following the game closely and used to look forward to each new update, but thus far every new piece of information just paints this game as "WoW in Dreamworld, with Action/Adventure style gameplay."

Nothing particularly innovative, interesting or noteworthy whatsoever beyond the gameplay itself.

After all the Guild Wars 2 reveals the last couple weeks, this game looks more and more like a generic, me-too Korean game port. I never got too excited for this game, and lately any interest has nearly disappeared. They will have to do a ton of work to get any interest stateside if this releases in the same year as GW2 and SWTOR.

Overinstanced world (zones split into channels/districts/subzones) and what looks to be a very clunky combat system (need to stop in order to perform a melee attack etc.) with staggering amounts of cc, so it's not like they can make the game any worse by introducing battlegrounds...

Personally I am loving the fact it's gonna be kind of WoWish. The average gamer that is bored of WoW will be more than likely to want to play Tera with new scenes and storyline. I love the mechanics of the fights. I look for Tera to be marketed quite well in the US with some of the people they signed at En Masse.

What will make the upcoming MMOs stand out will be customer service, game updates, and them listening to their players.

The average gamer bored of wow won't be looking for wow 2, they will be looking for something new. Tera does not provide that, except for the combat system which may turn out clunky.

World of Warcraft is the worst thing to happen to the MMORPG industry, hands down, for the very reason you just gave.

Too many MMO players all want to play WoW and only WoW, or, in your theory, a game just like WoW. How is the genre going to evolve if everyone is playing the exact same game?

The more I read about this game, the more it looks like a generic MMO when compared to GW2 or Rift :(

Yeah, a lot of WoW players want to play WoW re-skinned...then when they blow through that game's content, they return to WoW because it has a 5 year headstart on content.

Alternately, there's another sect of gamers that want to play the original EQ reskinned.

"The average gamer bored of wow won't be looking for wow 2, they will be looking for something new."

I'd agree with that but for the fact that every time something new comes along those players take a brief look at it and then rush back to WoW. There are an awful lot of players who will only ever be weaned off WoW if they're given another WoW.

It's probably less the fact that other games lack the quality and more the fact that many players have invested so much time and money into World of Warcraft that they don't want to have to start all over in a new game. Tera could be exactly like WoW with Action/Adventure style gameplay and players would still run back to Warcraft after a month.

Cloning World of Warcraft like Tera and half the MMO competition keep trying to do isn't going to help the situation at all. If anything, MMORPG's should be trying to reach out to potential new players who wouldn't touch WoW or anything like it, seeing as, as I stated above, the vast majority of people who are playing WoW are so hopelessly hooked that nothing is going to pull them away, anyway.

I don't see how this game is looking like WoW at all guys. Apart being set in a fantasy world. With that logic you might as well call Dragonslance a copy of Worm Oroborus just because they set in the same genre.

Even if it was a "WoW clone" I welcome it. I am very happy to try out a game that has similarities to another and enough differences to grab me.

These subtle improvements and experimentations help to push the industry and I'm always willing to give them a shot.

I am currently hopping from F2P to F2P (not spending a penny unless I get in a few months of play time) and I am regularly surprised to find a part of the game that is very clever and unique.

Don't count a game out just because of general similarities.
