Might want to vote for your subclass as well before you start, lvl 10 could be reached within a few hours playtime without much trouble.

Or is that a choice you want to pick your self? :P

Unless you count the time it takes to create a character, level 10 takes about 90 minutes to reach these days.

Wow... really surprised this one won. NCsoft must have sent out an internal memo. :P

How sadistic of the readers to make you play Aion! Muhahahaha!

Oh, it's not that bad for the time frame in which they'll be playing. It's not really until the high 20's or low 30's that the game runs out of steam and by that point the adventure will have likely run its course anyway.

Now if the goal was to get to max level before moving on to something else, THAT would be sadistic. :)

I don't remember seeing a single comment about Aion on the last post (most in the comments seemed to lean toward AoC). :)

While I would not have chosen Aion for myself, I do look forward to reading the series. I have not played since late beta and seeing it through another person's eyes will be interesting.

I'm not participating in this one. There appears to have been some vote rigging here sadly.

What percentage of the votes were cast and when? Could we have some clarification on how the votes were cast?

While it's great that people vote for these games, these results are not a reflection of what your readers at Massively have voted for, they are a result of people either voting via a proxy, or being directed to do so by a third party site.

This is not really what your readers wanted. A vote is a vote, I understand that, but if individuals automate or skew the results, then that's not good for anyone, and makes people who follow the rules votes count for nothing.

Finally, let's not forget, I might have possibly have looked at the result at the end of last week and even at the start of this week, and all I can say is that this result was certainly a surprise....

It's an MMO blog, not a presidential election. Lighten the fuck up.

Hmm, let's go through my post history...

"If you can't talk honestly about Aion's (many) legitimate problems, why post?"

Can you meet that expectation? Or do you have some more conspiracy theories to throw around?

Make no mistake, the game is dying in the west. NCSoft doesn't care, because it's wildly successful in Asia, and they don't want to jeopardize that market. By Christmas I expect Aion will be in a similar position to Lineage 2.

There are performance and stability issues with sieges. The xp curve goes haywire after level 30. There are fundamental balance issues (which aren't being entirely fixed by the anti-stuns in 1.9). The economy is non-existent, because drop rates are so low. There's only one real raid at 50. etc etc

These are all fundamental and ongoing problems with Aion, and are the reasons I haven't logged in in 3 weeks.

But I guess wanting people to talk about the actual issues instead of conspiracy theories makes me a "fanboi".

Thanks for your feedback, and nothing wrong with being a fan of a game, that's great for you!

Not sure if that has anything to do with the voting system here, but really happy that you like to share your experiences!

I'd strongly recommend you run as fast as you can. Aion was the first MMO I played in a long time, that made me feel like I was working, not playing. Off of the top of my head the only recommendation I can make for the game is that its pretty... kinda.

I can see it's already started, but you can expect a lot of hate for every single post in this series.

Have fun :/

Wouldn't it rather be more appropriately a betting pool?

Should play on Zikel Asmodian side so you can see that no one exists there.

It is interesting that Aion won, but I think it would be more wise to wait until versions 1.9 and 2.0 are released on the Western servers before giving it a go for your adventure (Age of Conan featuring a lot more new things people that quit playing long ago would want to know about), but I guess the votes determined it to be done now. Right now it is pretty much like release, except for the bots, spam and queues, there were only a few minor patches.

Looking forward reading about your adventure, as for my bet on what level you will reach by the end of it, I'd say around 30.

I still find it hard to believe that a game that has not progressed much since launch, compared to a game that is getting a new expansion and has had loads of new content added....

Won.

Definitely vote rigging.

Will not vote for this part now.

I recommend playing the test server. The improved XP and item drop rates will be a godsend later on.

There's a chance you'll be wiped, but that shouldn't matter. If you're really enjoying Aion by that point it'll just be a chance to play a new class and maybe race. If you're not, it just gives you all the more reason to quit.

25 and 35 are the usual cutoff levels. The likelihood of quitting at 17 is low. If you play on the test server, you stand a good chance of getting a lot further along.
