"Breaking news: No one thought FFXIV was delayed. No one said it was delayed. There has been no indication it will be delayed."

Revision: There has been speculation that FFXIV will be delayed. CEO denies that it will be delayed. People continue to speculate that it might be delayed, based on several nebulous observations.

Bottom line? If you dont like the content of an article, move along. Nothing is accomplished by snarky drivel.

Well yeah this was discussed a lot last week on the fan sites, and many are of the mind that yes the game will be delayed but some still hold on to the hope that it won't.

Thing is about SE is that they are very picky about their products and usually won't release them if there's bugs or if stability is lacking. And they do have a history, of delaying games. "It's not ready yet... Nope not yet.. Still a few months off.."

Wada wants to change this and pump out games faster, mmo or otherwise, however will quality suffer? It sucks when games gets delayed, but I think it's worse when they release before they are 'ready'. (An MMO is never really ready imo)

If it does get delayed I don't think it will be that long of a wait honestly.

Well, if it gets to that kind of situation, I will gladly hold onto your computer so that none of said fecal matter hits and ruins the computer, or during the ensuing grounding/punishments, where your parents will try to sell it to get back at you.

I wouldn't be surprised. This game has gone very quickly from having only a teaser website with a logo to being projected for release this year.

well.. if it's what it takes for SE to realize their vision of the game.. go for it, I've been waiting for GW2 as well so I'm used to delays and patience.

So basically there is nothing to support or disprove it being delayed? This wouldn't be the first time a CEO wasn't informed of the delay if you catch my drift. I also can't think of an MMO that wasn't delayed in the past few years. If they are still in Alpha testing that is also a very bad sign since a decent beta test takes ~6 months and it is almost June...

Assuming the delay is true this could be a fatal blow to FFXIV in the western market. SWTOR is coming in 2011 and people will flock to that. As word spreads that everyone is playing SWTOR people will join regardless of any misgivings they have about it. SWTOR overshadowing FFXIV will definitely hurt its playerbase, which in turn kills mmo's quickly. Since this is an asian MMO it won't be shut down but rather just have 1-2 servers. Though the FFXI community has stayed stable for so many years now it will likely be turn between the games.

The options I see for FFXIV are to release this year and get a community set up and stable. OR they could wait until the SWTOR hype dies(assuming it doesn't go WoW and grow exponentially for 2 years after release) then release. FF fans obviously wouldn't like the delay option but it is probably the better option over releasing a buggy product.

It's not really alpha as we understand it, this phase was more of a brief pre-beta then an actual alpha. Internally they call this phase the beta.... Says so in that Famitsu article.

Also this game has been in development for far longer then most have been aware of it. Look back at Project Rapture and the speculation that has been going on for years. Instead of making fans wait SE decided to keep things under wraps until they were some months away from the beta, which they did.

Well I would rather see it delayed so we can have a polished game at launch rather than FFXIV lanuch while it is still not completed. Only issue for me is that everyone is speculating Guild Wars 2 will be released Q1 2011 and if that is the case I won't be playing FFXIV.

Depends on the results of the alpha test, and the betas afterward.

My magic 8 ball says a 2010 release is "doubtful".

I don't know how much they're trying to get the western market to play this game (not much at all, if the sheer volume of information that has to be translated by fans is any indication), but WoW has virtually no presence in Japan. Given the game will be released internationally on the same date, I highly doubt they'll delay it on account of a game nobody in Final Fantasy's country of origin plays.

Wait just a minute. All you have to go on is reported login issues in Alpha? Wow, that's some in depth reporting there.

This just in, a Massively reader, who wishes to remain anonymous, reports the PS4 will be delayed till 2025, Sony will release a second BD drive for the existing one, micturate on stacks of Xbox 360's, and fling feces at copies of FFXIVIXIIVII.

See I can make crazy shit up too.

The only reason we've decided to post on this is because it's become a strong Japanese rumor, and we've heard from a few trustworthy people on our end that it's a pretty realistic possibility. Some have gone far enough to say that the game won't becoming out this year.

Of course, with accusations like that we can't name names. However, let me assure you personally that this would not go up onto our site if we didn't feel confident with it.
