NCSoft has opened the doors to its new Aion North American Public Test Server as of yesterday, offering players the opportunity to poke, prod, and probe content and patches before they make their way to the game's live servers.
Testers are free to create both Asmodian and Elyos avatars, both of which will enjoy substantially increased XP gain, crafting, gathering, and item drop rates, and Abyss Point gain. Accessing the test server requires a separate Aion installation on your hard drive, which can be accomplished by duplicating your existing Aion folder or via a fresh install.
NCsoft cautions new testers that character wipes may happen at any time, so don't expect the PTS to feature a persistent version of your main with increased XP. Test server characters also will not count against your character number limit on Aion's live servers.
Check out the installation instructions as well as the technical discussion thread on the official boards. Aion Source has also dedicated a forum to the public test server.

For those interested, the XP bonus seems to be about 400-500%, although an in-game restriction prevents you from gaining over 1/5 of a level with a single kill (so you must kill 5 mobs minimum to gain a level).
The server doesn't have version 1.9 yet, so it's currently the same version of the game that's on the live servers.

When will that huge graphic update happen?

At the speed that NCwest moves to translate NCsoft patches? Never. I'd be surprised if Aion survives much past 2010 (perhaps mid-2011). Once Cataclysm, Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, TERA Online, Guild Wars 2 and some of these other games hit the market, even the most foolish of NCsoft's deluded fans will cease their suckling and move on.
I really wish ArenaNet wasn't associated with NCsoft.

There's absolutely no word on when the graphical update will happen. The next big updates are 1.9 and 2.0, and neither of those appear to include this.
The vision trailer was more along the lines of a "What if?" with content that might be added someday if it turns out to be viable. It's even possible the graphical update will never happen, and the same about the other things you saw in the trailer.

Test servers are running old version (like it need testing after 6 months)...whats best...
All that is looking like OBS (One Big Scam).
NCSoft West did not inform us that there will be no 1.9...
They knew that massive amount of people will resub/buy next month ONLY for 1.9
(Public Test Server has to test something right?).
They set launch date to 29 april (most people re-sub date) and after that delay server launch (more people come back from work -> more will pay if dont know about no-1.9-server).
Community managers DID NOT inform us (even they know all are waiting for 1.9 on PTS) that there wont be any update.
Anyway whole case stinks a lot, many people want re-fund and are filling forms to their banks that they want cancel their payment and get cash back.
