So is this all the content they were boasting about in the "visions" trailer?

It was my understanding that Vision was a long-range goal, and not indicative of a single patch. For example, the pets seem to have made it into this 2.0 patch while the housing and graphical upgrades aren't mentioned.

NCSoft has said on multiple occasions that the Vision video was a 'this is what we're going to do over time' and not 'this is all coming in patch XYZ.'

Time will tell I guess.

Interesting that the people quickest to slam Aion are wilfully ignorant, or just flat out dishonest.

If you can't talk honestly about Aion's (many) legitimate problems, why post?

I guess now I'll wait until 2.0 hits american servers before I resub. I was going to after 1.9 hit but I might as well wait it out and see what happens :p

I can't believe that a game like Aion (given the payment model) is allowed to get away with having the patches launch on the eastern servers first, and then the western. This is the situation with most f2ps, and while I understand the reasoning behind it, it really shows who the developers really care about. It's not that hard to have the translators go along with the creation of the patch, just like every other department involved in it works in synch with the rest, is it?

Well, it is a Korean developed game for one. Also, they've consistently added content for the Western market as well - the Korean update is the "base" of the Western ones since (stereotype) we prefer a different style of PVE than they do (/stereotype). It makes sense to me.

Lets see...

Big patch gets created, they pay for the translations of their patches into the several other languages. They decide to switch things about, add and remove or tweak, pay translators more to translate THAT stuff, over and over and over until its finished.

Or

Work on big patch, finish the testing then pay for the translations once to bring it over.

You see where your logic even begins to fail yet?

Actually, it's easier, more efficient, and produces higher quality work to make translation part of the development process. Doing all the work and THEN porting it over actually takes longer and creates a lower quality translated product. Any company that is serious about globalization doesn't handle translation/localization in the 11th hour.

Acelin, I'd say that would be the case assuming that everything goes to plan and nothing needs a sudden tweak or shift.

But they don't have an "11th hour" so to speak, since there is no true deadline for these patches that we know of. And from the time I spent playing Aion, the localization is pretty darn good.

The other reason, I think, its not done at the same time is because, if several regional studios are testing the patch, and all find different bugs, they'll have to check with the other studios about it, then try and collaborate a list of all bugs, recheck those bugs on the other studios, then have one studio fix all of them, or all come up with the same way to fix it.

It'll be a while before we see it unless somehow NCwest manages to "localize" it faster than they have with 1.9.

Don't be daft...Aion wasn't developed for western audiences. It is a korean-MMO that was ported to the west. The west isn't so special that it deserves everything first. Hell, the west is only a very, very minute portion of the actual MMO market.

"Minute portion"? Really? Do you have some sources or citations to back up that statement? And how is "MMO" defined in this context? What games is this inclusive of?

I didn't mean that we have to be first, since that would be the same as it is now except reversed. What I meant was, they could translate at the same time they develop the patch, the same way, say, models are created by the graphics team during the writing of the code. While I don't play Aion, I don't think its a good policy to have one area lag a patch behind the other, especially when you are making a high quality game (despite its grind, this game is high quality).

Guys, you have to understand that back in times with Lineage 2 patches, the time between 1 Chronicle and the other one, was ALWAYS about 6 mounths.
Well, ok.. maybe you already know this, BUT.. the time between Korean and American releases were about 4 MOUNTHS later, while now that NCWest is up, they already restricted the times at about a little more than 1 MOUNTH.
Also, they have NEVER pre-translated the patch notes, letting the community do it, and NOW they'r doing it, letting the community to enjoy an official and detailed translations in over 3 different languages.
Open your eyes, because NCWest is up since about 2 years (this year, in october).. it's a relative new agency, with new offices, etc..

Also check at the dates of the last updates on their corporate site? Not up to date, just because they are working as better as they can to provide a new asset for the general "NCSoft". That's all ;)

I suspect a persistent typo in spelling of the word "month." Though it's a bit of an odd one...since one would expect to see "mointh" or "mopnth" because of the position of the keys on a qwerty keyboard. :)

I'll repeat what I've said before -- if NCsoft have a rat's behind about the "western" market, they'd be developing the NA/EU versions in concurrency with the Korean release. But they don't... so they don't.

I really do not wish any ill-will on the NCwest people, but they either get absolutely no assistance from NCsoft or they just are not very good at their job. If it is the former, then they are essentially functioning as a third-party entity and *that* is the real shame.

Aion is crap, I played beta was stoked, bought 3 collector's editions was STOKED, told me dad (who actually enjoys a grinder, seriously, who really enjoys a grinder....) Played the game until about 35, checked out the dungeons , sieges , pvp and everything else the game had to offer.... and after the first month I literally threw the game box out to clear desk space and canceled my subscription. Never even looked back.

My Dad how ever continued the grind to 50, showed me exactly what I assumed, it's a grindfest and really nothing even to look forward to end-game wise. and he has been telling me how boring and deserted the servers are.

GOD I PRAY TERA is better than aion.

Graphically Aion had all the potentially in the world , gaming wise I would rather use a vise grip on my balls than suffer through playing this bore-fest!

ON TOP OF THAT, It's so funny that every response from every blog/gaming site actual GAMERS and players that have played aion (not even play Aion because 90%+ quit already) is a negative response on how much of a butt sanding grind filled bag of suck aion and NCSoft West is.

You THINK they would get the point and actually try to fix the game but after the first month it was clear all hope was lost.

CONGRATS AION on being the mmo equivalent that Ryan Leaf/Jamarcuss Russel are to the NFL - FAIL!

I am practical, once a company screws me over one time i do not deal with them again, the list is short but sadly some big names are attatched to the brainless wonders that conspire when putting together pieces of crap like aion.

Take Guildwars 2, sadly, as interested as i am, i wont touch it because of ncsoft and simple plain failure on the part of their corporate and staff, attached or otherwise.

You get one chance to make a good first impression.

Gotta admit....I didn't think that we'd get 2.0 so fast! Launched at 1.5...then we got 1.5.1...now 1.9 is close and 2.0 is on its way! Was thinking we'd get 2 updates this year like Eve...at this rate I'm gonna start to expect a third! And I'm really looking forward to reading these patch notes for 2.0 !!!!
