a VERY interesting article.. I'm curious to see how the ten skill bar thing works with 1/2 the bar being determined by your weapon selection. The last 5 slots are player determined but the article mentioned one being dedicated to a healing skill, so *really* you have about 4 slots to work with.. I'm curious about the skill synergies.

Oh
My
!

Sorry ToR, but you'll need the grandmother of all visual overhauls to supplant Guild Wars 2 from my most-anticipated list now. ^_^

Wow, looks like I'm in the minority here... but I'm not that impressed. Oh sure, the graphics look solid, but I'm imagining what multiplayer combat is going to sound like...

"And stay down"
"And stay down"
"And stay down"

...seems like it could get very repetitive. Guild Wars went from not enough voice acting to too much voice acting. Is it an MMORPG or is it Pokemon? I like anime, but that type of voice acting doesn't seem to fit in a chaotic multiplayer environment.

"here come the flames... here come the flames... keeps getting better and better... here come the flames."

...and yeah... after ~3 years of waiting for Guild Wars 2, more screenshots and videos don't impress me. Anytime ArenaNet posts something like this, the only response should be... WHERE'S THE BETA?! Heh, but the people here seem to be in an incredibly forgiving mood. I'm glad that people are looking forward to Guild Wars. I'm disappointed that I'm not feeling the same enthusiasm.

Although, I do agree... I think Guild Wars 2 looks a lot better than SW:TOR. GW2 makes SW:TOR look a little obsolete actually. I was a bit concerned about what NCsoft said in their last earnings report. It seems that a release date confrontation could occur between these two might MMORPGs. I didn't want to see Guild Wars go up against Star Wars, but now it seems that ArenaNet has the better product.

...but are they going to clean up the lore to make it more appealing to a broader gaming audience?

Awesome, my text is gray! :-)

BONUS!

...but I expected more from MMORPG players. haven't we all been through this cycle before? It's just a promotional video. Put it in perspective! Don't be mesmerized by the fancy graphics now and then complain later. I see problems here and ArenaNet should fix it.

...like combat... it seems WAY too complicated to me.

The "noobs" in the game now are having trouble with point & click... do you really expect them to fight and think in three dimensions? Sure, some players can... but those who can't are just going to play something else... like a browser based farming game perhaps. HA HA!

Yeah... maybe it's me. Maybe I've outgrown this stuff... or maybe I'm the only one thinking clearly.

"here come the flames"
"here come the flames"
"here come the flames"

@Photics

Maybe you should read it again. There is a lot of actual combat mechanics and not a lot of PR hype. Good stuff to read and discuss.

Very nice looking. I'm not sure if I like the new skill setup. It sounds like you have much less say in choosing your skills than in the original GW.

Oh Em Gee those Elementalist skill demonstrations make me want to touch myself.

I've felt, from the first time I played Guild Wars, and once again with all the info, art, screens, and vidoes from Guild Wars 2, that ArenaNet was poised to become the new Blizzard.

I'm not talking about the typical "WoW killer" crap (there's no such animal, unless it comes from Blizzard itself), I mean as far as a company who produces, time and time again, beloved and polished games that have such zealous followings, no matter what genre they tap in to.

I believe GW2 will top even SW:TOR, among MMO's on the horizon, and I sure hope I'm right.

wow.... This is incredible, and I love that the elementalists are standing in a pool of water as they cast the spells, it really gives the feeling that they are drawing on the environment as a source of their power.

WOW I think GW might just be able to grab my attention back from Tera. The one thing Tera had over GW imo was that we already had a lot of info on it.Both games seem that they will be in the same league of eachother with stunning visuals with amazing characters, terrain and skill animations.

As information keeps pouring out it looks like GW2 will be having quite a buzz forming for it,I have more or less lost interest in GW1 and had also put GW2 the "meh" pile and put Tera on my "Excited" pile of upcoming games, But with the small info we have just gotten GW2 is now on my excited pile.GW2 will have to big advantage of not having montly fees, so it has one point over Tera already.

Phoenix looks amazing,Love the "homing beacon" feature.Static Field seems to have some kind of payback for being used, kind of like you gain energy back, or maybe it gives you some kind of stackable benefit.Water Trident may be a big clue as to how well Anet has worked on the details, I just hope they give all the skills the same polish and not just a few and the other ones being pretty lame like we have now.Churning Earth looks awesome it gives me desire to play earth just for the nice visuals.

Now I have zero confirmation or reason to believe I am right, but I believe that we will get GW2 release date anouncment very soon.I do not believe Anet will announce it during the 5Y celebration to not take attention away from it or maybe they will to give the 5Y celebration a cherry on top. If they do no announce during or at the end of the celebrations they will announce between next week or any time in May.I believe the announcement will be that GW2 will be released in six months time or more likely one year from now to give them plenty of time to get many beta weekends in and extra time for whatever unforseen issues or problems discovered during the BWE to be resolved.

All in all great news Cant wait to see what you guys think about it in the podcast, especially Rubi.

Time to nuke again!

Now just need to wait for announcement on Necro to start planning the 2.0 version of my Ele/Necro. The ten slot skill bar will be very useful.

u may (read: did) not check out enough info, but there isn't going to be secondary classes anymore. u get one race and one class. instead of 2 classes. so basically your race plays the part of the second class.

i am looking forward to the game a lot. but i def think the loss of secondary classes, plus the limitations on your build (5 skills determined by prof/weapons, 5 by prof/race *1 of which is healing archtype *1 which is elite)

so to sum up, if u were excited about your E/N build, don't be cause it DNE

After my nerdgasm was over and i came to my senses, i started thinking will my computer be able to run this... It can run GW1 on max settings but seeing how beautiful this footage is, I'm not sure that's enough. I better start saving money for an upgrade :)

I don't know... the system requirements for the original Guild Wars are surprisingly low.

Here are the minimum requirements for Guild Wars: Factions...

Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
800MHz Pentium III CPU
256MB RAM
ATI Radeon 8500 or GeForce 3 or 4 MX Serices Video Card with 32MB of VRAM
16-Bit sound Card
56K Internet Connection
Keyboard and Mouse

THAT'S INCREDIBLY LOW! I suspect that ArenaNet will be keeping the requirements as low as possible to attract the most users. The official site says "Mid-Range gaming PCs"

@Photics

Yes, they are quite low indeed, which is why I expressed my concern, running GW1 on max settings is not really much of an achievement, and a lot of time has passed and standards have changed.

But your other point is valid too, for such a beautiful game, Guild Wars is incredibly streamlined, it can switch graphical details and resolutions faster than any other game i played, and the loading screens are also some of the shortest around. So here's hoping those talented programmers keep up their good work and make Guild Wars 2 "glide" as well as the original.

Oh, i cant wait. :)

Wow. I'm so impressed, by everything. The game just looks so good: everything from skills to characters and backgrounds (what little I saw of them) looks just freaking amazing. This just kicked this game up to my easily most anticipated game.
