I haven't played it since the first month it came out but I was really impressed at how polished it was way back then. If I wasn't so addicted to WoW I may have played this more.

I wish they brought this over to PS3.

I've tried a few times to play this game, and every time, I feel inundated by too much to do with no direction and give up on it.

The easiest way (I found) to deal with that is to simply choose one aspect at random (or your favorite) and just do that till you max it or get bored.

On topic: I enjoyed the game quite a bit when it first launched, especially for a freemium game that focused on youth. The only part I didn't like was the lack of depth, the game had plenty of different things to do but none of them really lasted long for me.

I signed up for a month of it earlier this year and was sorta heartbroken to see they've entirely destroyed the group mechanic in instances.

Every class just uses an AoE attack now, no more single attack. There is no more pulling when it comes to mobs - they just spawn in bunches and you spam AoE to take them down.

They also removed the stat system where you would collect stars and assign them to build up your attributes.

This might be fine for some people, especially for kids (who I'm pretty sure is the target audience anyway) but there is very little difference between the classes now except for the way your AoE attack looks.

For me, the casual mini games are still fun and probably the best part of Free Realms.

You're right, there really is no more mechanics when it comes to grouping. It is very disappointing. Free Realms was easily the best casual, child friendly, family oriented MMO on the market. Now it's lackluster and tedious.

There was a recent dev post on the forums admitting that they might have overdone the combat simplification and they are looking for suggestions on how to improve it (other than going back to the old system). That made me laugh.

If they do change it, I'll give it a look.

Yeah, the "member-only" and "join now!" tidbit gets a little old real quick. However Free Realms is one of the most addictive and laid back free-to-play games around. With many minigames and surprisingly great graphics for a kid's game it made a week of being homebound thanks to the flu not so miserable.

I'd still love to find a few good roleplayers among the farms and ruins.
