Do you hear that? That faint yet alluring noise drifting over the MMO plains? 'Tis the siren song of the free gametime, my child. It twists and turns with the wind, seeking out every nook and cranny where a potential player may be hidden. Few can escape its call, but then again, why would they want to?
Over on the Darkfall forums comes the announcement of a Return to Darkfall campaign aimed at previous players. If you were a Darkfall player before April 2010, Adventurine wants to invite you back for a two-week free play session. North American players also have the option to transfer to the NA server for free during this period. Adventurine is directing NA players to sign back up here, and EU players to head over there.
The 14-day free play offer will end on May 31st, so if you tasted of the fruits of Darkfall in the past and want to see if it's sweeter today, now is the time to hop back on board!
[Thanks Billy!]

3 hours, no comments. Apathy, the silent killer...

Poor math is a somewhat more obvious condition (4 hours). :D

Personally I love Darkfall. The game is not for everyone, but everyone can find something to enjoy in this game.
The game world is the best game world in the genre. The only instances are dungeons, otherwise you have a huge, beautiful world to explore.
Player housing is the best in the genre. No one comes close. No instances and very customizable.
Player cities best in genre. Can be destroyed and rebuilt.
Sea warfare best in genre. One of the most incredible experiences I've had in decades on online gaming was my first experience in a siege by ocean. The player crafted ships in Darkfall are amazing.
Magic is extremely well done and in my opinion best in genre.
Melee combat is intense and challenging. Armor looks fantastic. Mounts are varied and no exclusions by race.
Excellent crafter community.
Great game for a niche audience. The only game truly in the spirit of UO.
Key for new players, get in a good Clan from the beginning to learn the ropes. Darkfall rivals Eve in complexity and learning curve.

I'm definitely tempted to check Darkfall out, just because after 5+ years of seeing WoW being constantly watered down (especially over the past two years since WOTLK has been around), I'd like to go back to a game where I am building my character rather than progressing via gear with absurdly inflated stats. Not to mention actually having an impact on the game world.
I think that the FFA PvP with full looting is probably the biggest thing that scares players away from games like Darkfall. Especially players who have been trained by WoW to think that your character IS their gear.

This game had everything I want (former UO player also). What's kept me from playing it is the first person view. Unfortunately I'm one of those people that get dizzy and have to stop playing, which of course defeats the purpose.

The first person view is what made me stop playing. Funny thing is I can play newer FPS games like L4D2 and Bad Company 2 for hours on end, but get sick playing games like of Doom and Duke Nukem. For whatever reason tho, if done right the FPS view is bearable.

I love the idea of Darkfall but the game really sucked. Everything about actually playing the game was terrible. The idea is the best out there though. I miss the original UO days.

@jordangeldart Off and on sine the release. I just never found the game play to be very fun. I'll try it again with the free 2 weeks but I don't think it will change my mind as trying again a couple of months ago didn't. It's not the view of when you are playing, it's just felt like playing with a knock off toy instead of the real deal. Like playing with a paper airplane instead of an actual airplane model. Something like that.

I adore Darkfall and I am not even a PvP fan. The world is beautiful, combat is fantastic for an MMO and epic really is the word of the day to explain the game.
I have been playing for a year now, tried another new MMO just as a baseline test and I still say Darkfall is the best.
Its not a game, its a hobby.
