Played in headstart/launch, enjoyed the game overall (specifically the "M" rating/content, combo system, and IP/lore.) But, the technical problems, client crashes, and eventually lack of content resulted in me suspending my subscription a few months into it.

Have followed the game on/off ever since, really expecting the sub numbers to continue downward and to one day see the dreaded "game over, servers off, not profitable" announcement, but it never came (thankfully).

Recently gave the Unlimited Trial a shot... was impressed enough at the improved stability, DX10 graphics, and overall improvements made to warrant re-subscribing and purchasing the RotGS expansion. If you've never given the game a shot you should check out the Unlimited Trial. If you did play (especially at launch), and canceled, you owe it to yourself to give it another go as well. Its free, what do you have to lose :).

Considering they can't decide what works how as far as ordering the expansion and it's add-on packs, I'm sticking to vanilla AoC. I'm not getting screwed out of money having to buy shit twice because of Funcom borking it up.

If you buy the retail package, you cannot upgrade it with any of the packs, you have to re-buy the expansion digitally and then you can add to it. Also, if you've bought the MoC ack, hope you bought the CE pack as well, or your MoC won't work. So you basically now have to buy the digital expansion + the CE + the MoC + the retail so you have everything. And anyone stupid enough to pay $29.99 for the retail for a social pet ( this is now the only benefit the retail gives you since it's not upgradeable but has to be added after the fact so you don't even get the 30 days from it ) deserves it.

Greetings,

Unfortunately no. The CE upgrade must be done prior to release and it
has to piggyback on a digital upgrade. I am very sorry.

You will need to purchase the retail CE in order to gain access to the
items.

In fact, if Massively wants to do a real story on FC and RotGS, how about reading through the dozens of threads on the official forums regarding this clusterfuck and then seeing if you can get Funcom to tell YOU how the whole damn thing is supposed to work?

I have it pre-ordered.

I quit about 10 days after launch. I've been trying to remember why but as I play through the two areas I managed two at launch, I can't find anything.

I'm enjoying my return to Hyboria immensely, and looking forward to Khitai.

No, but only because i have no time for MMOs. Been playing F2Ps since my time is so limited I can't justify a monthly fee.

If I had the time I definitely would be playing.

Most definitely. I've had more fun in AOC in the last month, with 3 of my close friends, than I've had playing any other MMO in the past few years. Having quit a few months after launch, due to bugs and lack of 50+ content, I'm happy I gave the game another look. Looks beautiful, runs even better than before, wonderful sense if immersion. Can't wait for Godslayer!

I've always felt depressed over the fact that this game was just out of my league, tech wise. About three years ago I dropped quite a bit of coin for a Gaming Rig tweek'd to play WoW as opposed to a Rig more open ended. When Conan lauched I was floored and ran to but a copy, only to learn too late that I was way below the Recommended specs for the game. Basically, as I lacked a Beast of a Machine, I was unable to do much without insane Lag and the game looking like a Horses back-side. My hope is that AoC finds a strong player base and continues to do well in the profit margin for Funcom so they can keep it alive long enough for me to one day upgrade my Rig and take a Journey into the Universe of Conan.

AOC got its chance a bit ago, while i am very interested in the newish pet/riding thing i only have time for one MMO..........and that hasnt come along yet.

If crafting was accessible to all players at all levels i would be subscribing now, but to much is closed off to the majority, if your not in a guild, your not going anywhere, to much of a communism/socialist mechanic. Pass

No, just adding faction grinding and more raiding. Not interested in either.

I'll be there Day 1.

AoC is the most underrated MMORPG on the market, and boasts the best combat and visuals in the genre. No one even comes close to AoCs animations!

Not really planning on it. I knew better than to get into Age of Conan but being such a huge fan of R.E. Howard's world I couldnt help myself. This time, however, there is no way in heck I will be an early adopter of anything funcom touches. I just have no faith in Funcom as a company making anything worthwhile. I'm sure that there are those that love their work, and that is great. More variety means happier players and the greater the chance for something different to come out.

Is there a free trial? I'd like to try this over the summer break...

Indeed, there is actually an unlimited trial, that allows you to advance to level 20 on as many characters as youd like. Its a fantastic deal that allows you to check out all the various classes and such, without spending a dime.

The downside is that AoC is a pretty large download, so it may take you some time if you feel like going the digital route.

The upside is that I recently picked up my copy of AoC for $6 at EBGames, which is the equivalent of GameStop in the US. Its really a negligible cost for the decreased download speed, not to mention it saves you from buying the game online ($15 or $20, I think)...AND of course you get the free month. All for half the price of a one month sub.

Alternatively, you can wait for the AoC expansion which is coming out May 11th. Rise of the Godslayer (the expansion) comes with the original game bundled, and I think its going for about $30. You also get a panther pet with that.

My advice? Either buy the game for 6 bucks, or download the game. If you buy it, use the game CDs to install, and then play the trial until you know which character you feel like making your main. By the time you activate your subscriber account, you will be level 20 and will know full well if you want to subscribe.

Unlimited Trial:

NOTE: Not sure how/if that will work once the expansion goes live, but for now, myself and multiple friends were able to register unlimited trial accounts and play as described on the registration page.

The "unlimited trial" is limited to the first 20 levels AND you cannot leave Tortage. These are the same super-polished levels that were used to get people to subscribe when AoC was launched while the rest of the game was borked. And to an extent, it is still that way. You will not see bugs on Tortage, you will not get an accurate idea of how your game rig can handle AoC's world on Tortage.

If you want to see the "real" AoC, I would suggest getting a 7 day buddy or "refer-a-friend" key from a current player, as it allows you to leave Tortage after you finish the destiny quest around level 16-28. Getting to level 20 takes a maximum of two days if you're a "casual" player, leaving you another 5 days to explore the world of AoC and make an INFORMED decision of whether you wish to subscribe or not.

I play AoC and enjoy it, but telling people to judge whether they'll like the game by playing the super-polished Tortage compared to the "real" game is just wrong.

Meant 16-18 for ending the destiny quest. You can also leave Tortage at 16 using the smuggler and skipping the destiny quest if you wish.
