Next time you guys interview him ask if they plan to update the UI and support LUA. I really enjoy EQ2 but the UI is still clunky compared to todays gaming.

I second that. Adding LUA support would take sometime, but given the added functionality I think it is well worth it.

What an insanely pointless interview. The guy had zero specifics to share other than expressing how immensely he loves Item Shops. He showed limited knowledge of the product and would not even attempt to outline a vision for the future. The man has absolutely no experience with a Triple A MMO. Planetside was always a small niche market game. This guy worries me : (

He has been there for less than a week. Give him some time.

I have a bad feeling about this. . .

Seriously, who is this guy and what are his qualifications to take over EQ2? It sounds like SOE is more interested in putting EQ2 on life-support -- like it did with Vanguard (RIP) -- instead of building on a great (but aged) foundation to compete with more recent titles.

Highest on their list should be rewriting the graphics engine so it plays well on hardware people actually have. I play EQ2 for its awesome RPG elements, but the graphics engine seriously holds back the fun at times as my framerate goes down to 10 FPS regularly in small group dungeons. It does that, and I have nothing running in the background besides windows, not even a virus scanner or anything, and a 2.66GHz processor with a Radeon 5770 with 2 GB RAM. Game visuals are actually set to VERY HIGH performance to boot. Main point is the game engine is a joke, every other game on the market performs better than EQII without a doubt, MMO or otherwise. Regardless, EQII is still fun for me to dabble with because of its overall feelnig that it's an RPG where I have a lot of options to build my character. I can't imagine actually having an alt in this game -- so if they just fix the stupid engine I feel their subscriber numbers would spike immensely.

I bet they haven't rewritten it due to developer resistance, but hey.. fire em. Find people with actual talent.

I'm referring to the interview and his resume. As to what actually happens...time will tell.

Death Mutant hits the mark on this one. I totally thought Vanguard when I saw this move. SOE is too married to the idea of promoting from within. Why not hire someone from the outside with AAA MMO experience? Or someone with great RPG experience like an ex-Bethesda guy.

If they ever make EQ3 I can see the announcement now....."Joe Blow, has been an intern here at SOE for 18 years. He has watched actual Game Developers at work for all that time. As he's handed us mugs of coffee and made copies. We feel the moment is right for Joe to step out from behind the coffee mug and take over as Lead on our new flagship title EQ3. We wish Joe the best of luck." SOE promoting from within....

I'm going to wait it out and see what happens, though I'm not crazy about his apparent enthusiasm for microtransactions. If he were to make the game F2P and RMT based, that would be a deal breaker for me. The thing I love most about EQ2 is the community, and I'd hate to see it degenerate into an F2P-type community.

As long as he doesn't go down that road, I'm willing to give him a chance. I'd love to see an improved new player experience. Maybe more of my RAFs would stick it out to see all the really cool stuff then.
