I dueled a friend with my Necro Mastermind in CoV, his ninjas kicked the behinds of my beloved zombies. I tried to come up with an explanation, check my build, nothing. It seem (again) that ranged attack have a large advantage over melee.

Enchanter (EQ1) / Coercer (EQ2).

Some people might not consider them a true pet class but I have always really liked charm type spells. The variety and the unpredictability (before you get a permanent charm spell) was always extremely satisfying and fun.

I also like Masterminds from CoV and Warlocks from WoW. The extra bit of utility of Warlock's pets (especially the Felhunter) not only make them fun but increases the skill cap of the class in pvp.

I second the EQ2 Coercer being the most fun and challenging (nervewracking?) pet class. You could charm most anything in the game but you never knew *exactly* when your charm would break and you suddenly find yourself with a NEW enemy!

I also liked Vanguard's Necromancer where you could "equip" your pet with grafts that give them enhanced abilities or reanimate a just-fallen enemy to help you fight for a brief period.

EQ1 pets were fun too since you could give them weapons, armor and other gear plus Magicians summoned all kinds of goodies specifically intended for pets.

Creature Handler in SWG pre-NGE (especially pre-CU) was awesome. You could tame wild babies (especially rare ones) or have a bio-engineer develop a deadly one of choice for you. Depending on pet levels, you could have up to three pets at a time to do your bidding. Those were great times indeed.

Pffft the best pet class by far in any game EVER was the Bonedancer from DAoC

you actually spec it properly and arranged your CL and ML cards right and you didn't need a group for most anything ever.

That said most people seared clear of the class and the few BD I ran into couldn't tie their own shoes so it amazed me they managed the login screen =P

The pet classes in DAoC were the most fun I've ever had with pet classes.

Enchanter - you were a ranged nuker who had a ranged nuker pet. The pets nuke had a snare effect on it. No melee could ever beat you much less get close to you. Even other casters, they had to make the choice of attacking you or the pet. You could easily kite anything. And for a long, long time the pet could attack through buildings and walls. OP to be sure.

Theurgist - OMG this guy was cool. Spam as many pets as you can until you kill whatever you are attacking. You easily had 10-12 pets attacking something at once.

WORST pet class ever - CoX Master Mind. All the people who played MM loved it. EVERYONE else hated how their stupid pets clogged up the maps to the point nobody else could move, attack, etc.

@pufonthis: your complaint about MMs in CoV is a bit out of date - all players can now push MM pets out of the way by just walking into them, so they don't block doorways or block players from getting into melee anymore.

I really liked the Exobiologist in Tabula Rasa. Aside from being able to clone yourself, their signature ability was Reanimation Wave, which would revive all the dead monsters you just killed and have them fight on your side. Very cool at CPs when you have massive waves of Bane fighting each other.

Yeah, it was always awesome to see a pile of dead Bane turn into a swarm of friendly Bane.

But the best part of the Exo's create clone ability was that you would equip yourself with weapon/armor set A, create your clone, and then re-equip yourself with weapon/armor set B... basically giving you both sets between you and your clone.

Pokemon Trainer *ducks*

I kid, I kid.

I run a Robots/Force Field Mastermind and he's several levels of Awesome. He has a weakness to heavy AOE-using badguys like Nemesis Troopers, but he can pretty much demolish anything else.

I've been playing about with a Ninjas/Dark but I'm seriously considering rerolling the character as a Demon/Fire or Dark.

The trick to MM control in City of Villains is a set of Keyboard binds created by one of the users. It takes ALOT of the stress out of micromanaging the creatures.

pretty much most of the daoc pet classes were crazy fun ..

Animist, Summon a ton of turrets to block paths off..

Bone Dancer, healing pets, or melee depending on your flavor

Theurgist, Kinda like the Animist, only you could put multiple pets on multiple people, very annoying class.

Cabby/Enchanter, both annoying classes, and extremely powerful..

necromancer, Become your own pet *grin*

44 classes is what makes DAOC just amazing..

healing or melee ...... why the or ?

I used to sit down in DF and craft while my minions took out Oj/Red mobs and that was before juggernaut/ML/CL which opened up a whole new level of whoopass. After which taking out the Absorbacrom, solo, was a cakewalk =P

I've always just plain enjoyed pet classes in general! I seem to remember DAoC Theurgist got a major needed nerf (still during beta I believe), at 1 point early on you could summon them till you ran outta mana and they were persistent, whole messa whoop-ass.

DAoC has some of the coolest pet classes. I also like the MM from CoV.

Contrary to popular opinion here, I never liked any SWG pet profession. They were cobbled in add on and unbalanced the game. At one point people called it "Beast wars and Pokemon rather then Star Wars...(BEFORE the NGE mind you)

I loved my Meta-physicist in Anarchy Online - But ill agree with some others here and say Mastermind in COV - Ninjas! Ripping thru a place that most others cant do alone on high difficulty...I personally liked combining Mastermind with Dark Healing. I too had my Tamer in UO, and Hunter and Warlock in WoW, and and and....

I've always liked pet classes, its nice to summon your own friends when no one is around. And they do what they are told! (sometimes)

Shamans in Vanguard. Best class EVER! (Especially right at launch when bear shamans were so unbelievably broken. Bug where certain ability crits were doing 10x the intended dmg, plus all the tanking and healing, and mana battery, and endurance battery abilities made bear shamans basically invincible).

My most favorite pet class is the Lore-Master in the Lord of the Rings Online.

I have a pet for different situations and it makes leveling a lot easier. My most favorite pet is the Eagle because as long as he is attacking and I die the Eagle will be able to revive me during the fight. In a group/raid group it really helps the Captain and Minstrel since they will not have to worry about reviving me and concentrate on the other players if they die.
