When we first heard that the much-anticipated Star Wars: The Old Republic was more than a year away (at the time), it was pretty depressing. Not just because it meant it was that much longer until it was playable, but also because there was little left they could tell us about the game and the world. We knew all the classes and what seemed like most of the areas -- and we had more than a year to wait. There wasn't much left to look forward to in 2010 other than expansions and maybe Final Fantasy XIV.
Time has passed, as it is wont to do, and we're now just around a year out from the projected release. We've seen steady updates from the Star Wars: The Old Republic team, but they've been a bit more content-light on occasion. And, of course, 2011 is starting to gain a full roster even without BioWare's much-anticipated game. So what are your feelings? Are you still excited to be one of the two million desired subscribers, or has your ardor cooled? Do you hold out hope for a big new announcement in the next few months? Or are you just sick of hearing about it one way or the other?

Meh. Bioware makes great single-player interactive stories, sure. Have they ever been known for their good balance, deep character customization (outside of games using the DnD system), or bug-free games?
Color me skeptical. Sure the missions will be good though.

When has any MMO or game in general truly been "bug-free"?

Durane - there is a diffrence between 100 bugs and 100.000 bugs. There is also a diffrence between a minor bug or a major bug. There have alot of MMOs launched in the past few years that had huge amount of both major and minor bugs. From huge memory leaks causing game to crash every 5 mins to the "normal" once of seeing a mob or even boss dissapear into walls and reset. From a broken AH systems to pets running in the air along side you when you fly. From a laginfested servers to individual server hubs beeing so broken that ppl launched campaigns to try to get them fixed.
The old cliché of "nothing is bugfree" is a really poor developer argument that they are not doing their job properly.

@Deadalon
I don't believe we were discussing the quantity or scale of the bug, just whether it would be "bug-free". I think Bioware knows that to have this game be successful that bugs will have to be kept to a minimum, especially considering their current involvement with Warhammer Online, a game that has been plagued by bugs. I am putting my faith in Bioware's ability to put out deep, immersive games. You can choose not to if you want.

I get excited whenever a new piece of info comes out, such as the "deceived" trailer. I want them to officially release race details though! I reckon this game will break the mould for MMOs, so consequently hardcore MMO fans won't like it but Bioware and Star Wars fans will.

I'm skeptical about EA also. They have track record of destroying smaller development houses in the same way Activision does. I would also be weary of an SOE games.
ME2 was good, but it wasn't perfect. The main story was generic and seemed to take parts directly from many different '90's Sci-fi shows. The best part of the game was actually the loyalty stories. We're also seeing a questionably priced DLC for ME2 also.
I'm intrigued by TOR, but I'm in wait and see mode. I wouldn't buy any MMO on day 1. Vanilla WoW was a technical disaster and AOC was awful after level 24 or so.

I am still excited about this game.
Call me a fanboy if you want, but anything Bioware has an amazing library of games and I feel like a MMO from them can only be a good thing. While it's their first MMO, the team has a knack for churning out worlds that suck you in and keep you coming back for more. If they stick to their guns, we should get a quality MMO, worthy to stand along side the titans of the genre.
I still have my reservations, however, but I remain cautiously optimistic.

@ fatpanda
Actually many european countries use a decimal point to the same effect as a comma, sooooooooo way to go champ.
I have my reservations about this game as well. I love bioware but if they create worlds using boundaries similar to that of kotor 1 and 2 and try to make an mmo out of it, I don't know how much fun it will be...

SWTOR is going to be a heavily instanced single player mmo with prob super carebear features like battlegrounds and no challenge at all as everything will be really easy and soloable.

Don't care much for PvP anyway. Stop pretending it will be some Wii interactive game

I have to say I was super pumped for this game when everything started to come to light, but it seems to me that this game has been announced just too early maybe. And this is most likely due to the slips from EA before the game was announced. It still looks like a great game, but to be honest, I normally don't bother to go check out updates or if I do it is a few days or more after friday passes.

I'm still hyped because I love the Star Wars universe, however as much as I enjoy the Bioware single player games, I have a feeling this game will be full of the stuff I hate in modern day mmo's (heavily instanced gear grinds with no sense of community).
But because it's Star Wars, and if SWG is anything to go by, I'll probably play it longer than it deserves.

After the disasters of MMO launches in the last 3-4 years - No Im not hyped. I will not Pre-order this game nor any other MMO ever again. Free trial will be order of the day for me - before I put one dime into a MMO title from now on.

I'm a definite buyer and subscriber for this
type of game. Good Sci-Fi mmos are hard to come by. Playing Global
Agenda now until Old Republic comes out. Berkanix is looking good as well
Hell I'll play Earthrise. when that comes out.
Mass Effect was a top notch game that can be made
into an mmo. BioWare knows how to put the RPG into RPG games.
I have complete confidence that they will deliver a great game based on the
Star Wars lore.

As an MMORPG gamer I keep an eye on most releases, and the logic-based part of my brain says,
"It's Bioware, so it's probably going to rock." Plus, I was a DAoC girl for years, and Mythic is under that same EA umbrella now, so I have faith that the one or two DAoC people left over there (ha) will help Bioware over the massively online and PvP hurdles they've never faced before.
However, there is also a different part of my brain that is tired of the Star Wars gaming franchise in general; I can still clearly remember playing Star Wars: Rebel Assault and Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire never mind the glut of SW games that have flown or trooped by since.
And then there's the typical turn-based MMORPG setup due to server response time when hosting thousands of people per server versus the prerequisite Star Wars speed-of-light(saber) battles that cry out for real-time action.
How is Bioware going to handle this dilemma? I'm almost afraid to look.
