If you are a Guild Wars fan who guessed that new costumes were coming, this will come as absolutely no surprise to you. We've all been following the OBEY/DISMANTLE campaign since the latter half of March, and the story has been growing both in and out of game.
ArenaNet sprung the new costumes on the community yesterday afternoon, giving fans the chance to show their allegiance to the world. The Shining Blade and White Mantle costumes are currently available in a promotion like the one offered with the Grenth and Dwayna costumes: until May 31st, you can purchase both sets for $9.99. The purchase price for individual sets is $6.99, so the limited offer is a pretty good deal. The costumes, once purchased, are account-wide and include costumes for both your male and female charactes.
Want a set and can't fit it into your budget? Keep an eye on Massively and you just may score a free set. NCsoft has generously given us some costume codes to give away -- watch for that giveaway later today!

Damn, I probably won't be around for that giveaway. I'm guessing there is a very limited number of codes as well.

I'm surprised at some of the negativity that I've seen about these costumes... as if the viral campaign was some big let down. I don't get it... don't players understand that ArenaNet needs to keep the lights on? Micro-transactions like this can help pay the bills.
If you're cheap, just stalk ArenaNet's twitter feed for Guild Wars. They've been giving out a bunch of codes. I monitor this feed, but I didn't scoop up the free codes. I figured that I'd leave it for someone else... and I didn't know who the "~sl" tag was.
Oh... and I don't like twitter.
I might be picking up these costumes. It seems cool... the Shining Blade looks great for a Ranger. I'm not sure about what this means for Pre-Searing players though. Maybe there should be a costume NPC there too. The best part of Guild Wars is before Rurik messed it up.
Oh... and I think a link to the official costume page would help this article... no?

People are probably negative because they expected something big and epic as the culmination of the viral campaign, and instead got costumes. But seeing as how the anniversary is still two weeks away, i don't think this is it.
The White Mantle costumes are the too sexy. I love the female Shining Blade costume too, but the White Mantle costume is just fabulous. I'm gonna be trying my luck at some of the giveaways, or i might even buy it.

I'm assuming they're being canny by releasing the costumes out of the blue this week, so that the pitchfork brigade can have their customary vent out of the way before festivities.
It wouldn't matter if they introduced 7 Hero slots, a head-to-do Mesmer PvE make-over and Paragon pants on the anniversary if costumes were on the same day; 99.9% of discussion would be faux-outrage over the costumes.
Getting them out the way now - in time for the Mursaat rally too - should at least distribute the doomgloom-sayers over a wide range of topics when the big day arrives.

I wouldn't assume that the viral campaign culminated in the costume release. I suspect this is a small piece of it.. It will probably end (or begin) with the anniversary. To think otherwise this close to the anniversary is kind of short-sighted.

it's a tough choice but.. I reallly like the visual style of the Mantle set.. sure they're crazier than bed-bugs but I dig their clothing.

I'll certainly be showing my support. Considering how much gameplay I've gotten out of Guild Wars over the years, I really don't mind throwing them a few bucks now and then.
I like to reward good behavior; unlike some companies that want to charge you for everything, especially respecs. I'd be broke if GW had any kind of charge for changing up your skill bar, in game or out of game, considering how often I swap that up.

What makes me sad about this game is the fact that they will never release new content for it.
Isn't it ironic? One of the best MMOs ever created with a humongous following is left to die when so many crap titles are updated.... New updates would bring in money and make fans happy.

khai Mann. I'm sure it will be different this time, they're also hiring some more Live Team members.

ArenaNet is hiring, but for Guild Wars 2, *not* the Live Team: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5113065&postcount=9

khai Mann: problem with GW payment model is that they don't have to make new content. You already paid them all you pay when you buy the box, at least subscription based games have to work hard to keep their subscriptions

I still dont understand this Obey vs Dismantle. What does this have to do with GW2?

I am going to second what Zen said above. I have played GuildWars for years and plan on playing it for at least one more year.
@Knighthonor1 - The Obey vs Dismantle is the start of the Krytan wars that will link into Guild Wars 2.
