When it comes to names that are immediately recognized outside of the EVE Online playerbase, say what you will, but BoB (Band of Brothers) is one of them, along with the Goons and a handful of others. One of the most divisive corps in all of New Eden, BoB has pretty well become a corp that many love to hate. (Or perhaps hate to love.) Today's One Shots from Sigþór shows off a moment from their history -- a cluster of ships, just waiting for someone to jump. He writes in:
"Memories ah memories! This screenshot is from late 2008; a BoB fleet movement. We were searching for another fleet of hostiles. [While] we were waiting at the gate I caught this beautiful screenshot. Not much more I can remember from that day, except for horrible lag when [the] fleet engagements started."
Have you managed to capture a great screenshot while waiting to pounce on someone in PvP? If so, we'd love to see it and hear more about the situation. Just send those screens in to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a brief description. We'll post it out here on Massively and give you the credit.

I found myself laughing at this picture. Gate camping like that seems so evil, but totally something I'd do.

Actually gatecamping is a very noobish way of doing PvP in Eve.
You'll sit on a gate for an hours, kill a hauler, get raped by some competent PvP'ers that have analyzed your gang composition and brought exactly what it takes to kill you.
Sitting static on a gate is not the way to go.

That is Eve in a nut-shell and any new person coming into low sec space will experience.

That picture pretty much sums up EvE. That represents my general EvE experience.

Oh my...
Now I finally understand why everyone says it's so hard to escape from a gatecamp.
Just look at all that firepower... *shrudders*

All the love I have towards EVE, this is something that needs correcting ASAP. And I was so happy to hear CCP are going to work on fleet formations. That is what a realistic game like EVE should have, not ugly blobs.

working on planned ... lots of things are planned they only recently started working toward it....
its not vapor ware, they just havent found the reason for it, they already said they can do it they just havent gotten a game mechanic that would make it worthwhile to implement, pretty formations are only useful if they actually make sense to use, whats the sense of 50 ships in formation if direction of attack or line of site means 0 currently.

Yes but they did officially announce it at Fanfest 2009. They have been working on Incarna for about 4 years too, but we know it will be done don't we.
Knowing CCP's love for realism and style, I am absolutely sure they will create formations.

Realism is why they should want to do it. With "game mechanics making it worthwhile" they just want to create a reason why players actually start doing formations, IMO.

I miss my machs, though you can only miss something from a shit game so much. this title had a chance to do well, now it is simply floundering while other more important projects are worked on.

Realism in EVE is not the realism you expect from simulations, but that is understandable as it is a science fiction game. Although, realism is still all around you in EVE - scientific basis of how modules use energy and electronics for working, modules improving one aspect of ship but decreasing another, player-manipulated market, factor of angular and transversal velocities in turret tracking, factor of missile explosion velocities compared to target velocities, photorealistic graphics, etc. - this is all that makes EVE realistic, life-like. And that is where formations go into the topic.
Hope this made you realize that EVE is a game that thrives for realism, as CCP themselves like to point out often.

Not to rain on your parade, but realism and Eve Online's gameplay don't talk much :( Stuff like fast ships outrunning missile explosion damage, big missile damage not hurting small ships very much, big ships not able to lock small ships anywhere near as fast as a small ship can lock them... there's a long list of stuff that just makes no sense. They did try to do some realistic things with gunnery, but that still misses the mark by a long shot, if you'll pardon the double-puntendre :)
Then there's the "must warp from point to point" instead of being able to freewarp around. That's why virtually all PvP is camping in Eve :( I just couldn't take the artificial limitations after awhile. So much potential fun going to waste....

Realism? In Eve? Seriously?
Newtonian physics called, it'd like word with you.
For once I don't even mean that as a cut on Eve. A game doesn't need to be realistic to be fun, and fun should certainly take precedence over realism. But, seriously, if you think the physics of space flight (hint: in space, unlike Eve, your ship doesn't decelerate when you turn off your engines, and that's just for starters), gunnery (forget anything not ZFT for space battles, if there ever are any), or the economy (if only manipulating a real economy was as easy, and as consequence free, as Eve's), or much of anything else in that game is at all realistic you really need to take some refresher courses in physics, economics, and sociology.

BOB was not, and is not a CORP. It is an Alliance.
