"Hopefully this is a one time incident."

This isn't the first time it has happened (in the US, GAO/EU customers contend it's close to the norm for them), albeit never on this kind of scale.

Thread about the last time here --

I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't the first time, either.

I use a credit card designated for online use only. I have had an account hacked in the past (thanks gatlinburg tn thief!), and this card has all the bells and whistles on it for fraud/over charge use. Plus it has a $500 limit, maybe a bit too high still, but nonetheless limited to not sticking me.

I would say the most I have ever put on it is around 300 for some pc upgrades, which cumulatively came to over $1k after a few months. But the majority of charges are for game use.

I was lucky, and was able to close my credit card before I got dinged. But, I am out 16 bucks to get it closed and overnighted.
This is not good, but as I played this weekend, the chat channels were not full of haters, and the game was still busy.

So, how many were REALLY affected?

I do not condone the problem, but I question how far reaching it was.

When a company allows anything remotely like this happen to my hard earned money and makes me go through this, the answer is simple: I quit playing. I implore those to just pack our bags and go elsewhere.

This is...probably the worst billing fubar I've seen in ages. Honestly who ever they use for billing needs to be fired and replaced. Someone mentioned I wonder what EA has to do with this..well considering Mythic was in business and likely using this company long before EA came around...nothing. EA's never seen this sort of massive billing fubar with any of their other games.

If my credit card company didn't take care of those charges immediately I'd be threatening a good bit of legal action not to mention cancelling business with them. I feel for those burned on the overdraft fees banks can be a real bitch about removing those.

Mythic needs to not only give free game time like..atleast two months but come up with proper in game compensation. What that is? I'm not sure..I wouldn't suggest anything epic but maybe a special mount that affected accounts can receive. The mount should have decent speed comparable with higher level mounts but be of a style that only affected users will get like...for orcs maybe a war wagon of some sort.

I dont think it'll put the nail in the coffin but it definitely hurts the trust factor. They need to pump up the volume on printing time cards I doubt anyone will want to use their CC for a while.

Many of the people claiming to be leaving the game are people who dont' play it and are trying to flame others into leaving, game is very busy and the chats are full of game talk and no one is talking about this, strangely only people in forums and blogs seem to be talking about it as I said because they don't even play and are jsut riding the waves to flame war and mythic.

that being said someone said there was no update from mythic, "Since Friday" that is a lie, there were constant Mythic employees in the forums keeping people up to date and answering their questions.

as well they had support running on the phone and tickets all trough that time.

anyways me being one of the people actually impacted by this, I called my credit card Friday morning and had all my charges credited back within a few hours without having to call mythic at all, then Saturday Mythic Automatically had reimbursed me already.

and all charges had been gone and my account was in the state it was before the problem, so no real big deal for a person who instead of overreacting quickly starts working on getting everything fixed.

Could you show me a link where I can read these official updates since Friday, please? Because I cannot find anywhere here, though you consider me as a liar, and apparently I'm a moron as well:

If you can give me any proof, I will apologize instantly to everyone for my "lie"; in every other case I'll take your accusation as an act of a simple minded fanboi who doesn't deserve bothering with.

And, yes, I am a WAR player, if it does matter.

you answered yourself on the quote:

"there were constant Mythic employees in the forums keeping people up to date and answering their questions."

go read trough the posts and find out, BTW do not leave out my part about the phone support and email support running, in case you misread that part.

BTW the guy selling the bridge, perhaps go try to sell it back to the guy to sold it to you in the first place. :)

Well, you are right... partially, and I apologize... partially.

Since an 'official' disclaimer in my book (but maybe I'm alone with this) talks to the community as a whole, on the main website and in a really, REALLY 'offical' form, such as a Producer-in-Charge's Letter or whatnot.

Because if I have to mine in the deep of plenty of angry forum threads for some information, it suggests that the company doesn't care to share with me as a custommer the exact state of things

I think this is too grand a generalization and very similar to the generalizations of the 'flamers' that you claim to oppose. You're also dismissing (or attempting to dismiss) the emotions of those people who were affected. The incident for some was very damaging.

I'm glad that your particular situation was handled so well by Mythic and associated parties and that you were able to rectify the issue so cleanly with your credit card company. For many, the issue is still being dealt with.

In the end, people who like the game enough to go on playing will do so. Those who feel like this was the last straw will not. Neither are wrong. And neither is anyone wrong for voicing their opinion. It would be better to be supportive than to condemn those who weren't as fortunate as you.

That would not be enough. Not for me at least.

In fact, unless the game goes free to play or offers a lifetime subscription (which should be free or discounted to people affected by this issue, depending on if they take care of the almost $800 I am owed in overdraft fees).

I enjoy the game, but I will simply not give them a credit card, bank number, or paypal account ever again. This is why a lifetime sub would be perfect for them.

As it is now, I will play until my account expires and not renew ever again.

I really am upset this happened, not because it affected me which I don't think it did since I'm still on a trial, but because Warhammer has been plagued with nothing but bad news. I'd hate to see the game go belly up as I really like most everything about it and mostly because if its gone, then what. None of the other games appeal to me except LOTRO, and I'll eat my own foot before I go back to WoW.

I really wish EA would help them out somehow, through a little money their way so we can get an expansion or something. This game has always had great potential and doesn't deserve to die this way.

I am in the same boat as you. It wasn't my brithday or anything, but I did have to cancel a trip with my wife because of almost $800 in overdraft fees that are still not taken care of and my bank says they will not remove them and are contacting Mythic to see what steps they should take next.

I was told it is not the banks fault that they had a billing error, and the manager suggested that I sue unless they give me my money back.

It's simple really. I have two choices and will either get my money back, or sue. Hopefully the judge gets me my money and makes them pay for my fees, as well as buy me the three nights in a luxury hotel with my wife that they stole from me.

That sucks. You'll have to go to small claims with the low amount. And, worse, you are going to not only have to pay to file, but you are going to have to pay to have the company served too. Depending on where you live, the whole process might cost you another $100-$200.

Then there is the issue of out-of-state lawsuits. Who knows how that works. Not I. Might

You'll also want very clear documentation and an even more clear summary request (what you expect to be awarded). Something I learned about Judges in small claims is that they are busy and not accountants. They make their decisions based on the facts that they can see - don't expect them to hunt for hidden clues. The more simple you allow them to see the charges, the better.

Good luck with that.

They made the biggest blunder you can possible make in an MMO game.

1) They messed with their paying customers, the life-blood of their business.
2) They messed with people's real lives, hobbies should not harm your real life.
3) They messed with people's financial lives, possibly causing a lot of damage to some people's lives. Worst thing you can do.

The trust is definitely gone, for those who were paying customers. There is no way this should ever happen. There should be safeguards against this. Those customers who stick with Mythic through this are much more forgiving than I would ever be.

I was hit with this too. But I havent played the game since shortly after launch. So its not just the paying customers that are getting reamed by this, Anyone that has ever had an account with War or DAoC can be affected. Thank god I had enough cash in the bank to cover this crap >
