It started as innocently as any tale of this sort could possibly start, but Warhammer Online's latest problem has people up in arms, from veterans to those who've only played a few hours. And understandably so, since dozens of charges that overdraw your bank account are fairly universally seen as a bad thing. The MMO blogosphere has erupted with posts on the incident, and even Mythic Entertainment's attempts to calm the waters have left several people feeling unhappy (to put it mildly).
Billing issues happen with online purchases, but rarely of this magnitude, and rarely on the heels of a push to involve the community. It hasn't been an easy ride for Warhammer Online thus far, so we're curious to know what our readers think. Is this a death knell for the game, or just a really big mistake? Does it make you feel more nervous about giving away your payment information? Whether you play or not, what do you think would be fair compensation for those affected? Do you see this as a major lesson for the industry? On an issue like this, nearly everyone has an opinion, so we want to hear yours.

Charged upwards of 16 times? Yikes, talk about your monumental FUBAR there. Mythic better be kissing some serious ass on this one.
Best of luck Mythic, and bring plenty of chapstick.

Lol, what makes matters worse is that EA continues to rub this bullcrap in our faces. Now they want to know if I need more thievery! Haven't you stolen enough already?

My friend who hasn't played WAR in months has also been charged! I recommend everyone who played this game and cancelled to call Mythic and DEMAND that you card info be removed.

Two things spring to my mind:
1) This wasn't Mythic's fault presumably, but no doubt they'll cop 100% of the fallout for it, which can't help their situation.
2) I've recently learned to use PayPal or TimeCards wherever possible, to stop the 'creep' of my Credit Card number being proliferated (legally) across multiple systems and vendors.
The way I figure it, the less organisations that hold my number, the less the risk of fraudulent or inadvertant billing is.

I was hit with 13 charges, fortunately I had enough money in my account that I did not overdraft but I have read about a lot of people who have, and even worse. People have bounced checks, missed payments, had plans interrupted, and worse. Mythic is doing, I hope, everything they can to make it right, but the question arises is whether or not they can do enough. Reimbursement, in game credit, and items may not be enough to convince people to keep playing the game. As for me and my 15, I am going to give Mythic 2 weeks to see what they do. If they have not sufficiently resolved the issue, or at least put into action a plan that will, then I will be going elsewhere. Aion sounds nice this time of year.
Make no mistake, there is going to be a fallout from this, only time will tell just how large.
Killing blow to Warhammer? Not impossible.

Probably more likely to be a killing blow to DaoC.

I have used Mythic for over 6 years (DAOC now WAR) and never had one problem. I have faith they will make this right. I was charged 38 times across 2 accounts. They have sent several emails regarding the issue and what is being done about it. My accounts will not be cancelled.

It's definitely a dishearthening fiasco, to say the least... there are plenty of angry discussions on US WAR-forums since Thursday, and it has not been sorted out yet...
Moreover, there is not any 'official' disclaimer since Friday, which is, imo, a huge mistake by Mythic communication-wise, even though a third party vendor was responsible... Shit happens, and I really like WAR, but this is totally unacceptable at all, so they MUST give some compensation for sure...

I recently saw a discussion/transaction history of someone with 20 charges to his checking account. Based on what I am reading, I am not sure if Mythic will be able to recover from this fiasco. This is quite possibly the Death Knell for WAR, and Mythic as well.

I'm done with this game. Their billing is as buggy and unbalanced as their game.
I was charged 27 times for the 3 moth sub ($42 each time)! This is pathetic.
With all my overdraft fees, this shitty company owes me thousands of dollars.
My guildee was charged 23 times, for a 6 months subscription ($78 each time).
Enough is enough. I am off to play Lord of the Rings Online, which is a much better game (aside from the really different PvP system).
This was a great birthday present for me, since now I am basically broke, and can't go out to eat with my wife ON MY OWN BIRTHDAY and with a huge mark on my credit history.
Yes I will get the money back, but the amount of sweat it cost me is ridiculous, as I had to keep phoning my CCC every few hours for anything to happen.
But as I said, I also missed a pre-planned birthday dinner with my wife, which took me weeks to set up and have everything just right. This was going to be our first real dinner since our daughter was born over four months ago, and we both needed it and were looking forward to it. Thank you Myth$c!
Word's can't express the anger I am feeling.
If you check the forums, some poor people are getting charged 40-50 times. I hope none of them are 6 month subscribers, because that would be lethal.
The funny thing is I even had a friend charged that quit the game a few weeks ago, although he was only charged 15 times, which is much more manageable.

Really sorry to hear that your plans got waylaid, Lexinator.
I know what it's like when you've organised something special, when you don't have much spare time, and it goes to all heck - it's not nice.
Whilst I'm sure you're not the only person to have this billing issue affect something important, you will have everyone's sympathies here at Massively I'm certain.
If you roll a character on Elendilmir be sure to say hi. I can buy you a Flagon of Ale to make you feel better =)

Thank you for the kind words.
I actually have a few characters on Brandywine already, I just stopped playing LOTRO to play WAR. Been with WAR since launch and this is how they thank me, lol.
On the up side, now I get to try out the new skirmish system that I have been putting off because I was so hooked on WAR. I hear they are insanely fun.
I play an MMO for fun, a little escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Sometimes my wife will get on, and we will play together. But when my escape slams the hell out of my real life, well it's time to ditch that escape. At this point a nasty drug habit would have been cheaper, heh.
Thanks again.

After reading his story I do not think he will ever be on Elindilmir! Or anywhere else on that game! Lexinator be strong and cancel sub if you not already did so. If you really want to go on playing this game I think its best to use gamecards from now on or Paypal (if they got that option). This mistake is unforgivable! They will only return your money they will not pay for any extra cost what so ever! And there is no way they ever can give you back that bday dinner with your wife. I hope that you and your wife got some good time same on your bday!
BTW congrats with becoming a Daddy!

This is GAME OVER for WAR. People didn't want to sub to the game before and now people will fear giving them their CC# even if they were thinking about going to play WAR.

Hopefully this is a one time incident. Since I don't currently play WAR or DAOC, I was not personally impacted, but this sucks for the people who were.
My big question is what, if anything, did EA have to do with this. This lingers in my mind because EA is also going to be the publisher of The Old Republic.
