We've got a pretty complicated hobby here, even by the frequently vexing standards of general gaming enthusiasts. There are more than a few elements that we have to wrap our heads around in order to play effectively, much less be on the forward edge. So it's kind of inevitable that we each find our own breaking point for where we stop understanding why we need to do some things. The whole series of explanations eventually turns into an endless rant that looks similar to English but just doesn't make sense.
You might have read all of the math for the defense cap in City of Heroes or the diminishing returns mechanic in Star Trek Online, but you might not have understood the numbers being flung around. Or perhaps it's something even simpler, like the very concept of the soft cap for Hit in World of Warcraft. Not for lack of trying, your brain just won't process it. So what still doesn't make sense to you despite your best efforts? Is it a small aspect of gameplay or something you urgently feel the need to get right? Has it made a major impact on your playstyle?

Thanks a lot jerks.

I never bothered with crit tiers in FFXI. I just know how to maintain 90% accuracy on merit mobs. If I worried too much more about theorycrafting for maximum damage, I'd die even more, and that's not a good thing...

anyone who has spent any amount of time surfing the 'net has stumbled upon various levels of insanity, from "wow, that's nuts" to absolutely unhinged... however this link leads directly to the heart of dementia in its purest form. the only thing about this Time Cube site that overshadows its utter absurdity is the sheer amount of mindless prattle. within seconds of reading, i was struck with a searing headache and an unbearable urge to thrust my face through my monitor. in the context of sharing a single link which epitomizes complete & undeniable lunacy, Massively has struck supreme victory here... but at the expense of my mental harmony. um, good job? :P

Ah good old Time Cube. Goons are fond of quoting it for local spam in EVE.
Speaking of EVE, T3 production chains still mystify me. I'm sure there's a reason everything is so expensive, I just don't get it.

I don't understand WHY I just read the TimeCube website...
Really though- Why have so many recent MMOs been dime-a-dozen type games? I miss back when MMOs took time to release and although buggy, they were good and full of content.
And another- Why don't all MMOs have a music system like LOTRO? It's epic.

I hate advanced theorycraft. When you get to the level where you need to plug variables into an equation to understand how your damage works and to increase it (yay ranged attack PDIF in FFXI) I lose interest fast.

It doesnt baffle me, there will always be those few folks that want to think they can number crunch a set of variables in a game and call them exact. Without devs giving exact numbers and reasons to someone, its just guessing, so 2+2=4 in your guess, just because numbers add up doesnt mean your guess was right, you dont have the code.
This is one thing i detest about some MMO's the very need to have theories or spreadsheets. People should be discussing adventuring, the last oh fek me moment or some other incredible experience that happened that day and not discussing Numb3rs, if a game is causing you to make spreadsheets and crunch numbers, they wont be getting my cash.
Before i retired i had deadlines, had to crunch numbers, balance budgets, make short, mid and long term goals/plans. I dont sub to a GAME to have to do all that crap again. And until some company gets it right, i wont play or reccomend a crap game.

As an fyi, the timecube is just a joke started by some campus brats. Something that began as a joke on campus turned into a viral piece of garbage. The >persons< saw they were becoming popular and they began to remove certain parts of the rants to make them even more nonsensical, and we have what we have today. They needed to remove the older posts but failed to do so, thus invalidating any newer work should it be continued.
Some might argue a journey from sanity to insanity but thats just part of the screwup.
