What a failboat Alganon is. It's not just self destructing, it's doing so as brightly, loudly and violently as possible.

Just let it die.

Yet another MMO created by a company just because other companies are doing so.

The fallout from this is never going to die, is it? Oh well, drama is drama.

All this over a game that no one is going to play.

"my loyalty, honesty, and ability to successfully create, build, run, and manage a multi-million dollar MMOG development company; something I have been doing successfully for over four years"

Successfully? Really?

Smart and Allen are like a double act, each as bad as each other and each with a track-record that makes one marvel at the fact that they have got as far in the industry as they have. Which isn't very far if we're honest.

As for Alganon, oh please, someone put it out of its misery.

I think the real question here is "is Arizona the Bermuda Triangle of MMO development?"

* Stargate Worlds
* Alganon
* Tradewars: Dark Millenium/Exarch

David Allen...
The guy who started Horizons and got himself kicked off that game...

Started Alganon and got himself kicked off that one also..

Anyone see a pattern here?

As much as Smart is a forum troll...Allen must be a total d*ckhead, f*ckup to work with.

...Smart pretty much opened himself up for this. This is why companies rarely go into details about why they've fired people.

I actually bought this game just for the hell of it when Smart took over and started talking about how screwed up the game was because of the poor design decisions on David Allen’s part. The thing is that Smart is absolutely right. The idea to make a wow clone that’s looks and plays just like wow and then put it up to compete against the real World of Warcraft was insane. If people want to play wow they are going to play wow and not some crappy version of it for the game amount of money. You don’t need to be a game developer to figure that one out.

As big of a loud mouth as Derek Smart is, I found it refreshing to hear someone come right out and be honest about the state of their mmo. I’m not going to play it until the re-launch later this month, but I’d really like to see what happens with the game now under new management even if I’m not planning on sticking around for a long time.

This is the second mmo of his own creation that David Allen has been fired from. I think he might be good at drumming up money and getting investors excited but as a developer he sucks. I also have yet to hear anyone to refute Smart’s claims about Mr. Allen’s mismanagement of the game which is telling.

Let’s face it; David Allen failed this game like he failed Horizons. He is not capable of managing a “multi-million dollar MMOG development company” as his track record shows.

The question here is; can you file a civil suit for slander against someone who is telling the truth? Ah, drama.

He'll be "honest" up until the point he screws it up and the players call him on it...then he'll focus his eRage on them. Is it too late to breast feed this guy?

The other guy has a point, he has made/ran MMOs before, Smart has made...yeah.

Smart may be a huge butthole, but Allen is as arrogant as he is incompetent. To think he could compete with ANYONE by bringing this fifth-rate clunky WoW clone to the table is laughable, and his interviews and press releases reveal he's totally delusional. "Alganon is what gamers have been waiting for."; that is a direct quote from him. I am truly flabbergasted that he would ever think that Alganon is somehow a competitive product.

This whole situation is as hilarious as it is pathetic. I'm inclined to say that this is the last we're going to see of David Allen, since what kind of an idiot would give him money to make an MMO ever again? And yet...

Oh, and basically, it isn't Derek Smart's words that "could lead others to question my loyalty, honesty, and ability to successfully create, build, run, and manage a multi-million dollar MMOG development company". It's the fact that Allen released Horizons and Alganon, two laughable excuses for games. I'm not saying Derek Smart is right or good or anything; I'm saying David Allen is an arrogant, delusional moron.

Well..after working with Dave for 4 years on a couple of projects including Infinite Worlds which in turn became Horizons in the mid/late 90's I find it hard to believe what some people are saying. Sure he has his faults and sometimes I would have liked to slap him about.

But his work ethics and commitment were never questioned by me that's for sure...

I did not part ways with Dave glowing with praise...I got fired basically but that was my fault not his. I learned a great deal from those times and I owe part of my current success in the industry to Dave. I've been a senior artist now for a pretty successful studio for 8 years...thanks Dave for the push :D

I just can't see Dave doing some of the things he's accused of...it was not in his nature. He loves making games why would he mess all that up...

Anywho..there we go.

Perhaps you weren't enough in the loop to know about his shady dealings. Just because you see someone everyday, and you see they working hard, doesn't mean you see the whole picture.

I just feel bad for the people who put their heart and soul into this game just to have the guys upstairs start a flame war and send their game into ruin. I had a chance to Beta test this game back before all this started and while I did think it was crazy to assume that people would play Alganon instead of WoW for the same price, the game was fun in it's own way. Also I got to talk with some of the Devs in game, which is something I have never really had the chance to do. We even talked about colleges for a bit.

I know that some talented people worked on this game and I hope the new free to play model does work out for them in the long run. This whole thing should also be used as an example for upcoming MMO developers of what not to do.

Personally I think we need more Indie MMOs, that focus on niche markets. I know that Alganon is not a good example of that but at least their offline training and social networking aspects could have turned out to be very popular features, but thats just my 2cents.
