This is the second time (that I know of) that this has happened for Mythic games in the past 6 months or so.

My friend was billed over $1300 (he's on the 6-month plan)! Needless to say, he's in trouble with his parents and he doesn't know whether he'll be able to play another MMO again because his parents no longer trust these online games/companies. :(

I'm unsubbing too because I like duoing with my friend.

This is a killer blow . If I was one of thier subscribers i would give up now and if I was thinking about playing either game I would'nt bother . Free to play models will be the only option left after this .

Ha!

Not laughing out of meanness, just that US Mythic subscribers are getting a taste of the old 'GOA special' that EU folks got from WAR since launch (and forever-after to my knowledge - haven't visited the forums for some time).

It sounds like the Mythic version of this is rather more hassle to undo though, so I'll downgrade to a guilty smirk.

Sweet googly moogly!
$500 Screenies, $1500 reports!

That is way beyond the incomprehensible workings of GOA; that can seriously mess with overdraft limits, credit reports and other trifles... like paying for food, fuel & rent!

I hope no horror stories are going to emerge from this, and I cannot say Drew is over-reacting; I'd sever all ties with an MMO that did something like this to me, and never look back.

Wonder if this might force EA to shut down at least DAoC. The game has been hovering with a very low sub count for a while and if this cost them $ I might think DAoC might sink like EnB did.

When we say free to play models we all know a cash shop is a given . Hence the phrase freemium . Your not telling us anything we don't already know. People might be inclined to make one off payments eventually in a cash shop to something like Warhammer but after this regular subscriptions could be hard to come by .

hrmm. inconveniencing your few remaining customers is not a smart move.

inconvenience is a bit of an understatement for some. A lot of people have gotten charged between $100-$500. One guy on VnBoards had 9 accounts and he got charged on all of them like 20-30 times, his total bill is ~$4400 atm. I know it will get reversed but for people who were already tight on $ might be living off ramen for a few days.

Ugh, that's one part of MMO's that truly sucks. If this happened to Blizzard, I might be somewhat amused, but when game devs and gamers suffer because of non-gamer bzns, it's just no good.

Hmm this reminds me to check on my GOA WAR account once more... I do it every month to make sure I will not "mysteriously" turn to active sub. It has happened 2 times in the past year...

This happened to me as well. I always cancel my subs after I put another month on because I don't like automatic charges.

I quit WAR after the first month, and I never even bought DAoC after the trial.

2 months later i noticed Mythic was still charging me for BOTH games!

My emails asking for my payment history were ignored. Fuck Mythic.

Good reporting and thanks for the heads up!
You reminded me to go in and cancel - my 10 day retrial was up on the 10th and they already had my sub info.
Back to Tortage!

The only satisfactory resolution to the effected customers is to refund the subscription immediately, put something in place to refund any additional charges and time spent dealing with this issue, in addition to allowing players to never have to pay a subscription for the game again, to fully compensate them, not just repay the money.

While I appreciate that mistakes happen, this has happened before and was hushed up, and now Mythic are trying to keep this under wraps too, by locking the thread of people complaining.

I can't see WAR coming back from this to be honest, the people they have playing have given the game as much good will as humanly possible.

It's not free if you're paying a subscription. I see Cryptic converted you to their way of thinking.
