Ah, the perils of digital distribution (or, if you're a fan, the joys). The hotly anticipated Final Fantasy XIV alpha starts tomorrow, and enterprising nerds have managed to rip data from Square-Enix's alpha client download, including portions of the soundtrack by celebrated composer Nobuo Uematsu.
The score looks to evoke that classic Uematsu Final Fantasy feeling, and if you're partial to that sort of thing, we'd suggest giving the leaked files a listen while you still can.
The music is currently hosted over at MediaFire as well as a couple of spots on YouTube. You can also check out the original announcement over at Reddit.
[Thanks to Kyle Horner for the tip!]

That mediafire link is already dead. :p
But honestly, I don't know why SE is trusting any of the randomly-selected alpha testers to keep things under wraps...

Holy crap, listen to 1D, it's 7:11 long and I think it's FFXIV's version of "Distant Worlds". God it's such a sweet song. And for those who care, 1C is the "Prelude" theme. A lot of this music reminds me of SNES/PS1-era FF music, which makes sense since Uematsu ain't done a FF game by himself since the PS1.

Things are leaking all over the place and the alpha hasn't even started, I'm ashamed to say I can't wait to see what else this month brings about... >

Amazing work by Uematsu. I have only listened to around half of the compilation, but I would say it most resembles his earlier work, especially FF Legend II, FF VII/VIII, and mostly Chrono Trigger. It also has quite a bit of modern elements such as moderate distortion guitar pieces which balance out the old-school feel with something new.

Nice to see a "reputable" blog encouraging piracy.

The soundtrack isn't available via legit means and won't be for many months. How would you suggest someone get a legit copy of the soundtrack? This is piracy, but it's not theft since there is no legit copies anywhere to be gotten legitimately.

to steal means to deprive someone of something by taking it for yourself without permission to do so.
so no this isn't stealing or thievery, however it doesn't mean its legal(for the people actually leaking the info).
honestly 2 thumbs down to massively for posting actual links to the leaked files. I've got no problem with you reporting on the info, but posting the links to it is just stepping beyond the line. you guys might as well just start posting screens you take yourselves.
you can either be a legit site or a leak site not both.

You do realize the 2 youtube links and the mediafire are already dead, killed by Square Enix, so your complaints of the links means nothing now right? They provided links that now go nowhere. The only link here that goes anywhere useful is Illumina's link to a torrent. :)

that's not the point. to be honest I appreciate the people that break the NDA for all the information we get out of it; which, in all honesty, should be coming directly from the developer of the software in the first place.
what i do have an issue with is when sites claim to follow the NDA (like this one: see any of the podcasts in which sean stops himself from saying too much about certain titles), and then go and flip flop their point of view by posting this article. if they like the special treatment they get being part of the media, they should take a look at their stance on articles like this. its one thing to be digging through a fansite to find information, its something entirely different to have it plastered on the front page of a legitimate professional publication.

They're not breaking the NDA, someone else is. They're simply reporting a breaking of the NDA on their site. :) And I don't see how music falls under the NDA, nothing really spoiler-y about it. All I learned from the leaked music is there's a chocobo theme which means chocobos. Hell, leaks like this help hype the game. Hearing the music has made me even more excited about the game, ditto the leaked game manual I'm reading that has pics from the manual too. Learning about the game is a big part of the hype.
