Thanks Jef,

Nothing surprising in there, but always nice with another interview with Craig, I hope the next one reveals an expansion releasedate tho :)

I re-subbed to less than stellar results. All of the servers have been merged yet again, and none of my high level characters were eligible for transfer (I have a level 80 Ranger and a 78 bear shaman, as well as a few 60+ characters, none of which could be transferred off of Tyranny) These toons were auto merged onto Tyranny, so if I wanted to try a PvP-RP server or even PvE I would have to start over!

AoC advertises free advancement to 50, but only after re-activating your account, so it is not until after I have paid to re-open the account that I find out the level 50 advancement is a ONE-TIME deal. One character may be auto-leveled to 50, on one server only, and that's it.

So my options are to level through Tortage on EACH server (a huge headache for someone with multiple high level characters) I want to try, and then choose my ONE class to level to 50 (which mind you is still the hardest 30 levels from cap) or simply grind to 80 on each server. No thanks!

And to top this all off, due to server merges, every one of my main characters requires a name change. Trying to "return" to AoC just adds up to a crappy experience right now.

If anyone at Funcom happens to read this article, please consider a way for legacy players to come back into the game. I understand that you are reluctant to give out transfers across PvP servers, but figure something out. Not everyone wants to play on Tyranny.

Craig Morrison has really done an incredible job with AoC. I'm really hoping Godslayer gets more people to take another look at this game. If not the best PvP game on the market (I think I'd give the nod to Darkfall) AoC is damn close.

It's been 3 years, how hard can it be to understand that to make this game work they have to delete all the quests and make content for each "career" the players want to start? That people dont wanna be babysitted anymore after WoW, they want to play and advance in their own way.

If this message could only reach Funcom people...

Im still strugling with the fact that the "best graphical MMO" has 3 way shield system blocking half the screen... Its just one of the worst idea I have ever come across.

Personally - the first thing I do when I start playing MMOs is turn off all names of players and creatures cause I really want it to feel like a real world. But in AOC you are 90% of the time watching some shields and hitting some stupid combos instead of enjoying the enviroment. I could maybe accept this shield system in a futuristinc MMO ... but AOC is not.

How can anyone enjoy the environment playing a babysit themepark MMO? You have no reason to "interact" with it because quests already do it for you, they tell you where to go and what to do when you get in places. When you play such a game you're like blind to everything and of everyone(anti-social), all you can visualize is your achievements and your equipment. The most shocking thing is that this is not the exaggerated judgement of a hateboy, but the sad and humble truth.

Correct me if im wrong, isn't this the way everyone plays these "games"? I mean you talk about environment, but that's what other writers in articles below mentioned as the difference between a world and a "game". Only the first forces you to care about the environment, obviously.

I like to think people grew up and are tired of such childish gameplay.

I'm pretty sure you can turn the shirlds off...yes then you won't know where they are blocking but that just adds a layer of difficulty to the game.

You have obviously not played AoC since 1.05 despite your statement. If you had, you would know the pvp has significantly improved.

Or you are just a really bad pvp'er.

I recently resubbed to check it out again, rerolled and am enjoying the hell out of this game. I'm on a PvP-RP server. The graphics are gorgeous and its almost fully voiced so far - immersion really isn't a problem. Personally I think the combat system is awesome - a lot more visceral than most games. I definitely don't feel like I can auto-attack and go get coffee. Playing a melee character really has a nice feel to it.

I (lvl 14) and a couple of 16s encountered a ganker last night - a lvl 24 member of "Order" hanging out near quest goals in low level dungeons just being a tool. When he first attacked our PuG split up a little and the dude who out and out ran away went down. The other two of us hid and lived. A few minutes later he found us again but two of us stood our ground and almost had him. Later after we finished our quest I tried to rally the guys to hunt him down, but one of them (the flee-er) seemed to think it was hopeless because of the level difference; I'm not so sure though - I think even at 15ish if we kept our wits about us we could have taken him. It was all really fun anyways.

Alot of unjustifed hate for this game. AoC was bad at the start but that was two years ago...

AoC is a vastly improved game, lots of patches incoming (with more PVP love to come) and an amazing expansion pack on the way.

Of course there is also a free trial (unlimited for the first 20 levels) so rather than listen to the haters or indeed myself, why don't give it a go?

I recently came back to the game and I am enjoying it. I like the combat on my 24" monitor with surround sound. I love the graphics. The game is about "feats". Everyone knows AoC is level based. It is quests based. This game has come a long way in the last 2 years. There is a lot to be said that is now positive about AoC and make note, I was a hater.

Tonight I was going up against some Vanir int he fileds of the Dead. I did pretty well soloing their camp. But I did lose against one NPC. The death swing from the NPC knocked me to my knees, then plunged the sword into my head while blood splattered everywhere, then I watched helplessly as the sword was twisted in a circular motion and driven further into my head. It was gut wrenching to watch and the gore was so damn cool. Better than Dragon Age baby!

This game is just damn cool. Thank you Craig Mojo Rising Morrison for turning this game around. We miss you at Anarchy Online. Don't leave unless it is for AO II.

There are always 2-3 posts about "just came back" in pretty much every article that is posted about AOC. The funny thing is that they all seem to be from the same 2-3 writers (maybe Funcom workers) telling the exact same thing. Its a cheap ad to do and I know the PR ppl of Funcom would not hesitate doing it.

But hey - thats just how Funcom works. More PR than actual work on their games.

Im not a hater - Im just a reminder of what Funcom has been standing for in the past 10 years. That is releasing unfinished MMO games. There is a new MMO coming from them soon and they are in a middle of PR campaign to change their image just so they can sell more preorders.

Funcom is a company that will go the extra mile of hiding the issues their game have. They dont life NDA and they run closed forums (AOC "public" forums were closed from general viewing at launch just for example).

There are alot of ppl that consider scaming 1 million gamers is nothing big. Some of us disagree and some of us will go the extra mile of pointing it out. The maing goal of our posts is to get Funcom to change their way. They could start by lifting NDA before game releases. Or maybe give out press release if a major feature of their game isn't in at launch (DX10). Or at least run open public forums so those that ARE looking for information about that missing feature - can actually find out for themselfs.

AOC has been "fixed" for the money from 1 million gamers that were scamed into buying an unfinished prodcut. Thats the fact of the matter - no matter how "fixed" it actually is.

I'm definitely no Funcom employee - look at some of my other comments there's just one actually about Conan asking how instanced it was.

j/k but I've stated some pretty strong opinions about GA not being an MMO, Cryptic making space feel really small in STO and this facebook filler crap Massively keeps posting.

Nope, nope - I decided to try to just make positive posts; but I am real, I bought Conan at launch and left in disgust after a month. I recently resubbed (actually, since the sub is $15 I re-purchased through Steam @ $20 so I could redownload those 20GB hyperspeed via their servers) Right now I'm having an absolute blast and am almost through with Tortage on the RP-PvP server.

One question for other Conan players - are the underhalls always filled with higher level gankers or is that something that clears out when you're done with Tortage? I love the danger of open PvP, but if you're 10 levels above a quest goal and hanging out invisible to kill a lowbie after the boss softens them up for you it means you're a ckickenshit tool, not l33t. But I digress...

Bluefunk - I have yet to see an Antivirus software that was released half finished two years ago and is still alive today. And Im pretty sure that there is none that used money from 1 million ppl to fix it.

And before you go saying that there is a diffrence between Antivirus software and Games... there is none. Custimors payed for a prodcut that they expected to work out of the box. THAT is what they bought.

Games are like every other software. The only thing that is diffrent is that Developers will continue to try to get ppl to accept more and more unfinished products - until that they are actually able to get ppl to pre-order a game before they actually start working on it. Thats what PR in games is all about. It is shamefull and a disgrace. And the MMO games have taken it to new levels in the past 4-5 years.

I'm not a Funcom employee, I'm a freelance IT guy. I purchased at launch, lasted a month and recently re-subbed, or rather, since the sub is $15, I repurchased the game through Steam @ $20 so I could redownload using their speedy speedy servers and get the same month to re-test it out.

I'm not out of Tortage yet, but so far my opinions are entirely positive. Graphics are amazing, the storyline is immersive and the combat is awesome. The only thing I don't like is that Steam tells me how many hours I've played... in the last 4 days.... 23.

One question for current players - are the Underhalls always filled with higher level gankers or does that ease up once you're through with Tortage? I love the danger of open PvP, but being hanging out invisible next to a quest goal you're 10 levels above doesn't make you a l33t PvPer, just a chickenskit tool. If I complete Tortage will I have an opportunity to come back as a 25-28 and clean up the Underhalls or do you leave a portion of the game behind when you "graduate" from Tortage?

I think I may have double posted - oh well.

Anyways Deadalon - I do agree with your feelings about half unfinished games, but that seems to be par for the course across the entire industry - MMOs, Single player games and even some console games are requiring patching at launch. I don't think you can hold Funcom responsible for all that - in fact I bet (insert your MMO of choice) didn't have an exactly smooth launch. It wasn't until the (insert name of patch where management pulled its head from its ass) patch when things really started working right. At least Funcom hasn't opened the AoC item shop instead of adding content in-game.

Hippie - The diffrence between Funcom and most other MMO companies is that the open comunications between the gamers is cut. Instead Funcom feeds the ppl with information that is just half the truth and noone can say one word against them cause then they use their NDA to prevent it from spreading out. This has nothing to do with gaming. Its a buisness that we do not want to see anywhere cause its not to any benefit to the custimor. Funcom has gone the extra mile in this regard. More so than most other MMO companies. Thats what ppl need to realise now - cause there is a new expansion coming - and a new game - and still there is only one way comunication beeing allowed.

I find it quite Ironic if gamers will have to start to use wikileaks to give info on what is really going on in a MMO game they are testing. That is something that will happen tho if companies like Funcom continue to spread their one way PR campaign - while ALL of the actual testers knew they are lying their arse off.

Every single Tester of AOC knew DX10 was not gonna make the launch. It was known more than month before. PPL were not able to tell this cause NDA was used to delete posts on alot of the MMO comunity sites. At the same time those same comunity sites allowed posts to stand where the posters claimed DX10 was in the game. But ofc.. the official forums were at that time CLOSED from public viewing so ppl had to rely on information from elsewhere.

Open comunitcation ... why not ?
