Lol, do you realize how ridiculous your argument is? You're trying to suggest that paying $20 for the game, plus $70 for the two expansions, plus $15/month for access, is somehow a better deal than paying NOTHING for the game, NOTHING per month, and a small amount of cash to unlock each block of content FOREVER?

You can certainly argue that WoW is a better game and you enjoy it more, but to imply it's more cost effective than DDO is laughable.

Oh . . . wait. . . is this an April Fool's post? Darn, you got me. Good job.

Yeah, you'll never be locked out of any content so long you keep paying 15 bucks every month!

Aren't you the clever boy?

In Jack's defense his parents probably pay the $15/month so he's blissfully unaware of the difference.

I love the DDO adventure pack system and item shop! More games should follow Turbine's lead. The goal should be to encourage players to want to max out their AMEX at the item shop, not force them to buy anti-death sauce so they can continue to play your grindy, "free" WoW clone.

Speaking of WoW, have you seen those awful new plush dolls they're trying to sell in the Blizz Shop? 25 bucks each for some cheesy, oversized beanie baby, and "yay" we'll give you an in-game pet too, which you'll look at once, and then forget about it.

This link to the DDO Forums has a really good breakdown of each adventure pack, including an overall rating, the appropreate level range, and how often you'll find people to run the quests with you. A fantastic guide

Thought I'd add just a few suggestions here...

While the idea of "Must Have" adventure packs in DDO is somewhat invalid, there are a few particular packs that I think most DDO veterans would highly recommend. These aren't the only packs to get, get whatever you'd like, but here are a couple and a few reasons why they might be the go-to packs for someone starting out:

Deleras: The Deleras Tomb quest chain has always been a biggie in DDO. It gives you a ton of xp in the 4-8ish level range in addition to some of the best loot at that level. If possible, run this entire chain at least once to get the "Voice of the Master" - a trinket that gives you +5% xp when worn (it also honors Gary Gygax.) This is one of those quests that just has everything. Also good for plenty of favor.

Vale of Twilight: For levels 12+. Besides being the place where you can craft Greensteel items (some of the most powerful weapons and items in the game), there's a ton of quests, a large outdoor area and a multi-part excellent raid. A great way to easily expand out your game once you've hit level 12ish and are looking for quests to buy-run.

Thanks to both Jerry and JetEskimo! I'm new to DDO and both of your advice is much appreciated!

I'm trying to do everything, really, but we'll see what happens...

They'll get my money when they drop the 'pay-to-cheat' nonsense.
