The world has shuddered to a halt today, as news of a delay for Mortal Online's impending launch hit stock markets and internet forums everywhere. Of course, perhaps it only felt like that to fans who have been eagerly awaiting this game for years at this point. Although the hardcore MMO was scheduled to launch in March, Mortal Online's Henrik Nystrom posted on the forums yesterday that technical issues were forcing an unfortunate yet necessary delay of an additional month:
"As you know we have been working hard to solve our desync issue within the game to have a proper release of Mortal Online. We have made some progress but we think we have hit the limits on the current version of the network solution we are using. We believed we had the solution before end of March but we now see that this is not possible at the moment therefore we have to postpone the release for another month. We have been working very hard day and night now for some years and finally started to see the goal and release, we just have to put another gear in before we are going to release Mortal Online. Thank you for your feedback and support that helped us to take this important decision. We will announce a final release date at a later time."
You can read the full announcement on the Mortal Online forums, and stay tuned to Massively for upcoming first impressions and a firm launch date of this PvP title.
[Thanks Bartillo!]

Starvault needs to file bankruptcy and close its doors before they have to release this broken unfinished game. They need to sell to a bigger company that has the funds to correctly produce and have a strategy and planning as Starvault just throws stuff together at the last minute.
What a joke of a game. It is going to fail hard at launch and the fanboys will not be able to keep it alive.

This delay proves that they actually understand that the game is absolutely not ready for launch. Maybe they don't realize the scale of the problem, but at least they know that there is one.

announcement from the Mortal Online forums
"We will also fly some of our programmers to the US where Epic Games are located to work within their team to get their fully support on our game and update of the network structure in an efficient way other than distance cooperation. This will improve the speed and quality of us going into the latest build of Unreal Engine and the network solution which should eliminate most of our current issues, both in performance and network wise. "

Delay it until it's ready. Smart move-that's why you have a Beta (not as a publicity gimmick).I'm so tired of unfinished game launches.

This is a good decision on the part of SV. They have a good idea for a game here: plenty of folks are hankering for a UO style open world game, and Mortal Online has that concept down and in place. The only thing missing is the game still runs poorly and the UI is counter-intuitive and difficult to use. Fix those, and this game is likely to see a gradual climb of subs.
Here's hoping SV figures out their server lag problems and is able to clean up the controls and UI. Once players are fighting monsters and each other and not the interface and lag, Mortal Online will likely be enjoyable to play, and SV can focus on skill balance and expanding the world.

If MO and DF had released at the same time id say that it would have been an open race, but now? Darkfall's have almost a year worth of content and big updates. Dont know anything that would convince me to play MO instead of DF as it looks right now.

Just need to fix this game, I will probably try it, but that desync issue and the many other bugs should DEFINITELY be fixed before release.

Enough already.
Starvault are hopefully learning the lesson that you should never promise what you can't (or are not very sure that you can) deliver.
This is critical for an independent release like Mortal Online. Broken promises and patchy communication with your community (forum posts don't count, do you really think that we are going to search for your posts, get official posts on your website on a regular basis already!), are only going to be damaging in the long run.
The community can either be your harshest critics or your most enthusiastic champions. Treat them poorly at your peril.
