I hate digital issues also. I find it hard to read articles even as long as this one on a monitor, there is just something about it that makes my eyes tired and my mind tends to drift.

Reading an actual magazine doesn't do this. I can sit and relax and absorb text much better.

bottom line is I will never pay for a digital copy of print media, magazines, books etc.

Yes i use LCDs mostly i have a CRT and and LCD at work because i use two monitors. I don't know what it is about reading on screens that bugs me, maybe its the pixelization of the fonts or the refresh on the monitor or something subliminal.

LCD's and CRT's emit light to make the images visible. This bombards your eyes and causes strain over time. It becomes especially prominent when reading text. That's why optometrists recommend that about every 15 minutes you take a minute or two to look at something else.

This is also why digital readers like the Kindle and Nook are so successful. Because they use reflected light rather than emitted light you don't get the eye strain from reading them that you do from a light emitting display.

I hate digital issues too because I like to feel, smell what I purchase within my hands and I also like to have them physically on my shelf.

I just wondered the same thing. Looking at the amount of Aion content, better said the lack of it, what on earth will they put in 12 issues. That is: 102x12=1224 pages of talk about Aion !!!!
Maybe if they print the source code of Aion they will fill this pages with "original" content :)

Odd (or is it?). The impression that we are left with about their digital publication echoes that of the game itself.

Amazingly pretty -- and I mean breathtakingly gorgeous at times. But sadly devoid of sufficient content that is engaging in any meaningful way.

Lot this is hilarious and must be shared. I just found out that NCSoft finally admitted that they have no capable staff for community and forum. The main administrator of AionSource (the Aion fan forum) was recruited by NCSoft and from 1st of April he will be in change with the new official Aion forums and CMs.
Oh the level of fail. This is like Ford hiring the head of a Ford fan club to lead the marketing department.

Actually many game companies recruit people in this manner. If you are looking for someone to run your official forums what better place to hire from than a successful forums site. It is faster and easier than training someone from scratch and you can be fairly sure they already know the job based on their current work. As a plus, in this case, the person is already knowledgeable about the game too!

This doesn't seem to do much to alleviate concerns that the magazine is just a cover for a cash shop (I'd be interested in a poll of whether players were buying for the e-zine or the dyes). I expect future issues to focus more heavily on lore and similar fluff, since, frankly, Aion's game content is relatively simple.

Hearing that Knite from Aion Source is being recruited to help their PR team is a good thing, I think. Aion's biggest weakness is that they just don't seem to be talking to their players like human beings. Having somebody on the team that can talk frankly about what players like and dislike, admit that some things just are badly designed, and to ask about feedback in an organized manner would go a long way towards making NCWest look like a game company, rather than a brainless limb of NCSoft Korea.

Ultimately, though, it's probably too little too late. Aion's a joke in my circle of friends after the first two abysmal months. I just don't think it's in NCSoft's interest to make the necessary changes to make the game palatable to western players, since that means writing quests, cutting back the grind time, and introducing new content at regular intervals. From a business sense it's better to just drag and drop with the bare minimum of change.

Here's hoping we see some talk from NCWest come the first of April. I'd love to get an inside view on how the devs feel about their game, and where they really want to take it, as opposed to the generic business speak about "risk and reward" and "updates may be coming soon!".

Sir, if I could mark your comment up any further for what you said here, I most certainly would. NCsoft's chance was blown in my circle of friends as well. I've been saying for months that whoever is in charge of their PR/communications team is utterly clueless. As it appears now, there actually wasn't anyone serving in that role.

I'm not saying that is a bad thing. My problem is that they refused for 6 months to acknowledge that they are unprepared and understaffed. They simply treated Aion for NA/EU as a low grade product sold on black market: no support, no service, no bill , no insurance etc. In Aion you got the support of stolen merchandise :(
