Hey, show some respect!
They may need to press 3 buttons while moving in a circle!

By the time you get to this mission you will have more to push than two buttons. unless you are trying to say that all you need to do is fire phasers in which case I would say that you are probably just a poor addition to the team. The reason he says experienced is because this mission is easily screwupable for ppl who don't pay attention. I'm at captain now and I still haven't gotten on a team that can get it done.

Lets see now ...

It's a tier 3 encounter:
* The Captain should have 6 personal abilities usable in a space encounter.
* The Bridge Officers manning the four consoles should have a total of 9 abilities at that stage (assuming a 2/3/2/2 configuration or variant thereof)
* There are the two devices (consumables)
* And depending on the weapon config, most of the cannons/beams will be on autofire, but you usually have at least one projectile to manage .... lets be conservative and say only one.

That's 18 buttons for a captain to worry about. Not 2.

Then of course there is tactics. Anyone "circling" the entity will die in 2 seconds flat. A single shield facing against that thing will be shredded almost instantly. So there is a lot of maneuvering involved while making sure you have correct weapon facing.

Finally there is the encounter. That thing makes most bosses in WoW look tank and spank. A few people in an encounter who don't know how the encounter plays out can easily screw it up.

So two buttons my ar ... err ... left foot.

Troll much cknot?

Of course, if Star Trek lore had any part in this game they would already know how to shatter the Entity pretty easily without a "fleet". Too bad this still isn't really a Star Trek game.

And if you know the encounter, you would know this is not the same as the original Entity.

And not a Star Trek Game? It's not a cutesy "group hug" Next Gen crap. The universe is at WAR. This is the "Dominion War" Star Trek. This is the "Zindi War" Star Trek. This is the Borg incursions, except now the Federation has the ability to fight back. This the Original Series, where Kirk wasn't afraid to kick some butt!

Sure there should be MORE variation in the missions, but without a good diplomacy engine, the scripting of diplomatic missions is bat shit boring. Unless you introduce some kind of meta-game for diplomacy ( ... something like the "card system" from Vanguard ...), combat is still going to the most exciting thing in the any game.

Sure the game is not perfect, but few MMOs are at release. Personally I don't like crossing over into other territories without consequence. I dislike the size of the warp space map; I'd love to see something much bigger. Personally I REALLY dislike the exploration and really want to see something that is more meaningful like a more open universe.

But the fact is that companies without a stream of income to pay their people and the rent can't afford to remain in full development forever .... only companies like Blizzard with their endless pockets can afford to do that.

I'm really want to see STO keep growing. I really want to see a better exploration system put in place ... one that is persistent and meaningful. I'd love to see a diplomacy meta-game in place making diplomacy missions more than a script. But I'm happy to suspend believe right now while Cryptic build on what's there.

I agree with you on TOS. That was my viewpoint when I initially participated in beta and pre-ordered the game. I was a total fanboy. However, the more I played it, the more I came to understand Cryptic was shaping the lore of the game to fit their game engine.

"But the fact is that companies without a stream of income to pay their people and the rent can't afford to remain in full development forever .... only companies like Blizzard with their endless pockets can afford to do that."

Well just from my standpoint, the number of games I have time or money to play is very limited. I want to play games with the feet to stand on their own. I'm not buying a game as an investment on its potential. Maybe some people want to do that and that's fine -- not me. There are too many finished games out there to spend time playing an unfinished product -- a product that could stand on its own APART from the implied potential.

I'm with ya! I hope STO is a game I want to play in a couple of years. LotRO had its own share of the bumpy road when it launched. I didn't want to go near the thing. I just picked it up and am having a blast. It's come a LONG LONG way in a few years. Hopefully, Cryptic sticks with this and takes the game where no game has gone before. :) Just not quite there yet IMO.

As a side note, I do like seeing more positive blogs and comments about the game. Community is a huge part of a game's success.

I, like you left LotRO on the shelf for a long time, even though I had got a lifetime sub ( ... various reasons, but mostly because the gameplay wasn't up to scratch). I have to say though now, that game is schmick! To me, it's more fun than WoW ever was ...

If Cryptic don't buy into all the negative crap and stick to their guns, I reckon STO can be a great game too.

There really is no need to be rude to the writers.

I can not see where he said it required skill either. Kyle said experienced which can be a differen't thing.

Congrats cknot, you either A) Read a few bad reviews and never tried the game, or B) never played past the first few levels to realize there is more to it than fire phasers and torpedos. Oh, news flash, you can actually set up to two weapons systems to auto fire so as far as your concerned, you don't have to press anything.

So this friend of mine, we will call him BOB. Bob has a lifetime sub, we make fun of Bob about this.

Bob tells us the new patch is great, we ask if space is persistant, Bob says no.....we ask if the skill trees have been fixed, Bob says a few, we ask how few, Bob says 20 or so skills were worked on but the other 70 or so will be addressed, we say hmm........we ask is the pvp balance fixed, Bob says no. We ask if the ground combat is fixed, Bob says no.

We ask if space combat is fixed, Bob jumps up and says that some ships are better now than they were, we say hmmm. We ask Bob if crafting is fixed, he says no, we ask Bob if ships can move in space as they were meant to or do they still corkscrew up and down, Bob says ship movement still sucks. We ask Bob if there are any playable factions other than the feds, Bob says no. (Monster play klingons dont count as a faction)

We ask Bob if so many problems still exist, what did this patch do?! Bob says he has a nifty instance only lifetime subs can go into and his name is now blue color on the forums and the item shop has 6 more items............really?!

Enough sarcasm as humorous as it is, a few of us talked to our lifer friend and what he told us didnt make anyone want to give STO a retry, hell in watching him play the other night the simplest fix on the skill tree that was simply swapping the science and escort blocks to where they should be never happened.

But i guess with half a million QDR's they may be a little swamped.

I have become intrigued. What kinds of skills do these space ships have? I've never pictured a space ship having all that many abilities, I mean they're like planes, sure it's full of electronics, but half of that is just to make sure it doesn't explode.

If someone could list off some of the skills these star trek ships have, or could leave a link to a site I could check out I would really appreciate it.
