No other community is perhaps more enthusiastic about their upcoming MMO than the one surrounding Star Wars: The Old Republic. Recently, they found what appeared to be a testing portal for the game and coupled with the countdown clocks on every other BioWare site (except for Star Wars: The Old Republic's site) the discovery created a fervor of speculation and discussion on the official forums -- mostly surrounding whether or not beta was near.
Shortly after these events, SWTOR community manager Sean Dahlberg confirmed that yes, this page is in fact a "Game Testing Portal". While we don't have even the slightest clue as to what this means, it may be a good time to update your hardware scan for the game's beta application. As for us? We'll be keeping our eyes locked on the game and perhaps we'll even stalk BioWare staff at PAX East like an Imperial Agent ready to strike.

I'm pleasantly immune to hype and am perfectly happy not betaing anything for a few years after the Cryptic/STO fiasco. Still happy for Bioware -- I (heart) them.

I am waiting for this game. But, more importantly, I am waiting for more information concerning gameplay. How are they going to handle all the story driven content while still maintaining aspects of the MMO genre?

They're not. Initial videos and descriptions suggest you're going to be playing a heavily instanced co-op version of KoTOR, that they will be asking a monthly fee for.

So far it appears that story driven aspects are all quest based. From the hands on some people here and at other sites had with the game, it looks like you will have some open area questing hubs that include other players, you'll just go into a dialog thing and be stuck choosing options for awhile. It looks like your UI even disappears when these conversations come up, so who knows if you can cancel them halfway.
I expect the game to either have a fair number of small instances for the quests, or for the quests to be generic where the only difference between killing rats is that if you chose the good path, you're doing it because they're eating grain from the poor people, and if you chose the bad path, it's because so and so wants rat blood for his experiments.
If their story driven quests are going to be different than that, I really wish they'd put out a video about it. Cause the video they have now looks both instanced and having a pointlessly chosen good or bad path.

I am looking at this game but, i guess im not a mad Star Wars fan and Bioware has not pulled a sucessful MMO yet (as far as i know, feel free to correct me)
Dragon Age was ok. So i suspect an average game full of fanboys.
If MMO'S are going the way of Mass Effect or Bioshock then my appathy is going to only grow. Yes, I know neither are MMO'S
So to my point, puurlease take a loved franchise and do it justice or create a brand new IP an make a good game. As i read recently " the MMO market has been reduced to a primordial soup"

maybe BioWare games are simply not for you.
Call me a fanboy if you want to, but that is the only company which has not failed me ever. Everything that I played from them was absolute pure gold. I have a lot of faith in them that they will not disappoint.
But don't get me wrong, people will be disappointed and a lot of them will be very disappointed. Why? Because they will be expecting a very very different game. And some people will have unrealistic expectations. But I am hoping a large number of people will be very very pleased with the game.
Then again you only need look at their track record to see how awesome they are.

Reason being probably because it was confirmed yesterday... and anyone who has been following the story already... already knew.

It is highly unlikely that Bioware is capable of making a bad Roleplaying game, Blizzard blew the mould with WoW, I have a feeling SWTOR will do the same
This game will shift the genre in a new direction I am sure of it

I am not so sure about shifting the genre. I think this will show how single player/multiplayer games and MMO game are going to be coming together. I think you can see it in several games out there already like MAG and Global Agenda.
There are three companies that have never let me down and two of them are Blizzard and Bioware. I enjoyed WoW for several years and I expect to do the same for SWTOR.

Already time for testing? How long has this been in incubation?

Developers say 2-3+ years. That sounds about right to be honest since the graphics are looking a little bit dated similar to Dragon Age's slightly dated graphics and Dragon Age was in development for a long-time. DA compared to ME2 for example looks a tiny bit meh but still is a good overall game graphics aside.
Before ppl flame me, I know the game is still in Alpha so graphics are possibly not final and the finished product could look more finished and hopefully less clone-wars animation style. (Personal preference having grown up with the original trilogy). With cartoony graphics, it feels like Bioware and Lucas Arts are kind of s%$#ing on the fan base who originally made the services so popular and successful. As if Ep1 wasn't bad enough...

if Bioware games are bad or "average" then What is exceptional?
if nothing is exceptional, maybe it's time for a new hobby?
