Long live Intrepid! :D

Don't care what other people say this is one of the few MMOs that still have old school mechanics that isn't a blatant WoW clone trying to make you savior of all humanity and give you everything just because you cry. Really good game with some great content if people would just go play it.

Said it before: SWG needs to F2P Sony. I would go back to it and I am sure so would many others.

I wouldn't play it now even if they were paying me. This game needs to go the way of old yeller and be put out of it's misery.

Bendark, thanks for the insightful contribution to the this topic. Another person who is insulting SWG, haven't seen those before. Any other pearls of wisdom you wanna drop on us? Maybe a shocking tale of how the current economic recession is also bad?

SWG is still profitable though in its current model. This is Sony we are talking about, if SWG was an eyesore in the earnings column, they would've buried it long ago.

Well, always loved the space part of SWG. I was a veteran pilot and one of the best on my server. I re-subed this week because of the space updates and the promise of more to come in GCW 2.0. If the GCW update for pilots is good, I may stay until TOR or BP.

Ah! A fellow vet from Intrepid! Sadly, the Intrepid server was one of the 12 servers closed in October. Now more than half of the remaining servers are dead. It is sad to see what became of a once great game and its community due to incompetent and greedy management. The very things that set apart SWG from the other games have been removed, nerfed or completely changed (WoWified).

Again, as a long time SWG vet who has been quit for over 2 years, I always loved the space side of SWG. Thing is I refuse to give SOE any more money so cant help agreeing with Bendark and others.

I played SWG from launch and quit before the NGE so kinda missed the fury that happened. I logged into one account after and respected to max bounty hunter. I am soooooo curious as to what is going on with that account but they want £10/month for SWG you got to be kidding.

I still love SWG though and miss it as it was. The real trouble for me is (I am on a trial atm) there is no one there even on Star Strider - empty. It used to heaving!!!! So sad.

I always loved Jump to light speed. This is really cool for those who play the game. Those maps are so huge that they could add new content for the next 2 years and still have room.

Heres a some more pearls for ya RogueJedi86, water is wet, fire is hot, and swg smells of bantha poodoo. I loved the game before the CU, I had fun before the nge, but there is no way I'd ever let soe have another penny of my money. Adding these features to the game now is like re-arranging the chairs on the titanic.

The game was buggy and had no quests at all pre-CU and pre-NGE. It's only perfect in hindsight. Like has been said before, if it was so great, people wouldn't have been quitting in droves before the NGE, forcing SOE to try something drastic to lure people in.

SOE thought they could compete with WoW. They wanted WoW type numbers and decided to screw over their existing player base. You DO NOT completely change an MMO two years after launch. I'm glad there's so few people playing now. Hopefully it teaches the exec's at SOE a lesson.

and in doing so drove out over half of the current player base.

They'd already lost over half of their player base, so half of a half is a quarter. So they only lost a quarter of their original play base? Big deal.

True but their "new game enhancements" only succeeded in enhancing the lack of players. They have had very little luck attracting any new blood for the game. If it had stayed like it had maybe they wouldn't have gained many new subs, maybe they would have. But when you do something as drastic as removing classes, changing the very core of a live game with almost no warning right after an expansion then you're going to lose people. And those people that you lost are very, very vocal.

The lack of content pre-NGE only succeeded in enhancing the lack of players too. They had no luck attracting players pre-NGE either. They did something drastic........and kept losing players just like pre-NGE. For all of how perfect you people claim pre-NGE was, it was already losing players at an alarming rate. It was losing players long before the NGE with all of how bad you say that it was. You're basically saying SWG lost a lot of people, then something happened and it kept losing people? What's so dramatic about that? People left after the NGE, but they also left before it too. It was gonna lose players either way, the NGE just gave it some publicity. I doubt SWG would be half as memorable now if it'd not done the NGE and just been quietly contentless and buggy for the 4 years since the NGE(6 1/2 since launch). "Remember SWG?" "Barely, I just remember there was nothing to do in it so I quit after a month or two of playing." "Yeah me too."

Also, try replying to yourself when you're talking to me, it keeps everything in one reply chain instead of spreading it out over multiple separate posts. I'm replying to you to talk to you, you can also reply to yourself to talk to me. Or maybe I should make my replies as separate posts and make you go look for the new posts that are my replies like I'm having to do with you?

The damage caused by the NGE goes further. SWG now has a huge negative reputation. So many people will pass on the game simply do to the knowledge that SoE messed the whole thing up and not even knowing how.
It's not even the mechanic change, it's the lack of reset that SoE shows it's player base. The community mangers, the devs who clammed up and let speculation drive the player base up the wall, the constant finger pointing after words.
NGE aside, the game has unforgivable technical issues that shouldn't exist in a game this old.

Clipping issues, collision (I had an enemy run right into a cargo crate and kill me from the safety inside it, while I couldn't touch it.
The game runs like crap despite its requirements being crazy low.
Combat is clunky and awkward, targeting is abysmal.

There are problems like clicking nothing to deselect your target as well as other bugs that haven't been fixed since the NGE!

That's utterly ridiculous.

The sad thing is, SWG is an amazing game, the features and freedom this game offers is astounding. The developers just keep adding new features and ignore the simply things that could improve playability.

SWG deserves better.

This line should read:
"It's not even the mechanic change, it's the lack of respect that SoE shows it's player base."
