The super-big free update for Champions Online, Revelation, is officially out today. While the announcement seems to have come out of nowhere, this is about mid-March which has been the scheduled release date for Revelation.
Bringing a significant amount of completely free content to the game, Revelation adds a new zone in the form of the dark voodoo inspired Vibora Bay. It also brings new perks, five new enemy groups, six new meta-powers, a new raid in the form of Therakiel's Temple and even more costume pieces. All-in-all, it's a good day to be a Champions Online subscriber. We hope everyone enjoys all the new content, and we'll surely see you somewhere in Vibora Bay, battling werewolves and half-demon, half-angel supervillains.

If we are honest, the only reason its free is because the community went nuts.
They blamed everything on Draeke who was a fantastic GM all the way back to the POTBS days. It was really low to make Drake play the fall guy for Cryptics greed.
They wanted to nickle and dime their own players. It blew up in their faces and so now its free.
Pound to a penny the moment they think they can get away with it you will be asked to pay again.

Great! CO almost has the content that it should have had at release!
And they expect us to tell them how great they are for making it free.
Sakura Park.

Question. Can you throw that church at a dragon?

Its only free because they know noone will pay one dime for CO content. Cryptic is in serious problems and to me it looks like both CO and STO is in grave danger of going under if Cryptic doesn't work triple overtime to recover the trust they have lost form the gaming world. And ofc.. that triple work has to be FREE !

Okay people! That's the obligatory expert 'this game is in trouble and is going down' comment per thread limit reached! You can relax now, Deadalon's done a fine job of it for us this time. ;)

I know there are rumors that Deake was let go because of that announcement, but is there any proof or just conspiracy theorists.

Its free because it is, whatever happened backstage is unknown and everybody is just speculating.
Who cares really? maybe Daeke did botched magnificently, maybe he is the scapegoat, the expansion may have been been free or they made it free because they respond to community, either is not a bad thing and the end is a free expansion that's what we get.

Obligatory CO-fan comment. The game, in spite of all its flaws and the mistakes made by Cryptic at launch (launching too early would be a major one), the game remains one of the best MMORPGs on the market right now if by MMORPG you don't mean spending hours of brainless clicking to grind your gold. Let's just hope Revelation and the army of fixes Cryptic are working on allow people to realize that at the moment, Champions Online is likely one of the very few MMORPGs worth playing on the market. And to think of all those people still playing WoW... sheesh...

Think I'm gonna download that patch tonight and get a little in tomorrow... If I can tear myself away from Mass Effect.

Grinding for gold? Bad! Grinding for craftable travel powers, action figures, costume unlocks? Errr...Good?

I downloaded the free trial of CO and I like it. I'm probably going to buy it this week if I can find a store that has it in stock.

Download it from any of the places selling it. I think it's only 19.99 from some places.

Wow, that was out of the blue. I knew it was supposed to come in mid-March, but I don't remember them giving a date for it.
The VIP lounge at Club Caprice is nice. Bank, auction house, nemesis store, all in one place. Plus purchasable healing items, an item that lets you warp back to the lounge, a Foxbat action figure, and an NPC who will reset your hero points. All in a very posh environment.

After reading this announcement, I logged in last night to check it out. I'm really glad they fixed the crafting issue, and they seem to have added much more content, at least in Monster Island, too. (unless it has been there all along and I hadn't noticed yet).
I only had time to do the first mission for Valerian Scarlett, but so far it looks promising.
Anyhoo, I'm glad for the fixes, it seems like the game is back on track.
