As you can see from the image above, this week's Star Wars: The Old Republic Fan Friday brings us a peek at some of the customization options for character heads. There's also another work-in-progress video, this time of the Force Lightning powers as used by the Sith Inquisitor. The game continues to look better at a very consistent rate. So much so, that we wouldn't be too surprised if BioWare has some really exciting stuff to show off at E3 2010.
Moving back into the now, this week's fan art highlight is by community member Hazaz who's got some really great stuff that we think is worth checking out. However, this "Short History of the Sith for Newbies" guide on the official forums is a recommended read for any Star Wars fan, regardless of their interest in the game. But tread carefully or you may lose your entire weekend -- or a few hours, depending on your reading speed -- to the uncaring black depths that is Star Wars lore.

All the models in the picture look relatively simmilar, with different hair and skin tone/make up. Although, the hair styles are great, i really like them.
And i really like the lightning effects on the sith inquisitor.

I like that they're going to allow face paint/markings. I would like to start seeing new player species though, I'm starting to get the impression that Human might be the only option as a player like it was in the previous KotOR games. I hope that isn't the case.

I still believe the only race at launch will be human, but for companions you may have a choice of race. That's the feeling I get anyway.

That's the feeling I'm getting as well. I can't picture them allowing players to be a species like say Wookiee, just because there is voice acting for the main character. Wookiee's would likely be restricted to an NPC companion choice. Hopefully they will have other options, even if their limited.

Do your research and you will see how wrong you two are.

Meh. I think they look like molded plastic. Sorry, but the character models are not doing it for me in SWTOR.

I love BioWare and I absolutely love their games. But they are not that good at character customization. As long as they can deliver on the story and gameplay, I do not care much.

I thought they already said there would be multiple races at launch?

For some reason... they look like something out of the 80s or a really bad porn or B film. lol

I think they look good. You can definitely tell they are all variations on a base head model. Hopefully we'll get more control over the actual facial structure than what is shown here. Either way, I enjoy the art style they went with.

They look much less cartoony than I feared. Not bad :)

I can't imagine them not letting us play as Twi'leks or a Zabrak (darth maul). I myself would like to play as ... uhm I don't know his name ... the guy in star wars the clone wars (animated show) who's green and has a bunch of face tentacles >_

I really hope these are examples of what you can make, and not what you have to pick.
I was hoping we'd get a more developed character creator such as games like Aion, Champions, Star Trek Online have, where you get to modify tons of aspects of their face and such with sliders.
These really do all look like plastic doll heads too. I hope that the shininess gets taken down a notch. Too perfect, too shiny, very unlife like.

It's a conscious design decision. They decided to go with a more stylized look, instead of realism. Some of the more whiny player like to call that 'cartoony,' for some reason.

That was my exact thoughts as well when I saw those characters. I REALLY hope those are examples of characters you can make rather than choices you must choose from (like say the original KOTORs had).
Bioware's latest games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age leave me fairly optimistic it's the former since both of those games allow fairly detailed control.

Looks like a big step up from the last KOTOR models, and fits with their usual design aesthetics. I like it :)
