It seems like no matter where players fly in Star Trek Online, there are meteors all over the place. We're not entirely sure what left so much intergalactic litter all over the place -- perhaps one too many space fights? Regardless, it does make for some pretty Star Trek Online One Shots, such as this one sent in to us today by Forrest, who writes: "I was exploring a newly discovered planet when I caught this glimpse of my old-as-dirt Connie, truly a nostalgic and geektastic sight."
Have you found a gorgeous view on your travels? Why not share that moment of coolness with the world! Just email it in to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a brief description. We'll post it out here and give you the credit.

If you fly into those meters, nothing happens. You do not take any damage, you just keep flying until your inside it or you bounce off of it.

I agree. I too get sick to death of these trolls continually running down STO. I wonder how many of them have actually played the live game and can actually comment on the fame with any authority.
All this anti STO rubbish reminds me of the FUD spread about Vista ... which at release had less than half the number of reported bugs than OSX and was certainly less buggy than XP at release. All that spread by people who, for the most part had no contact with the OS.
The problem with this NOW generation is that they expect a new game to be released in the same state as existing stable mature MMOs. While I agree that STO needs a lot of work to be a great game, it is certainly in a better state than many MMO releases over the years, and I have been playing beta and release state MMOs since Ultima Online.

Beta and Digital Download of the Deluxe edition and played the Headstart and first 30 days.
Authoritative enough?
And yes, its a half cocked piece of crap which i desperately wanted to play and like but was letdown because its nothing but the same couple of mission types over and over and over again. 'Crafting' ais a complete abortion and the worst of an MMO to ever hit release. Looks pretty though. And its Trek. But thats about it as far as positives.
Going into Live with major systems broken and leaving them broken while you bring in Mini Skirts isn't a fantastic idea either...

Hmmm .... Worse than Anarchy Online at release? Worse than Earth and Beyond at release? Worse than UO at release? Worse than Age of Conan at release? I think that it's all subjective really. I'd place all of the above games as having a far worse release than STO.

You do realise, mikejl, that of all the comments thus far yours is the only one that has nothing to do with STO?
You may want to look up that definition of 'troll' again.. or look in a mirror..
On topic: Nice screenshot. STO is really good for creating a good-looking static image. Not something I'd want to pay a monthly sub for, but pretty nonetheless. ;)

Actually, he said "Nice shot."
But on topic, I would love to hear some story for why there are so many destroyed planets and thing.

Pro-tip for you Anana: if you want to comment on Blog sites, lay off the personal insults. It makes you look nasty and small.
Personally I can understand what mikejl is saying. Massively is a great site, but the constant negative comment on certain games make it seem like cesspit sometimes.

@ Lichbane: Protip - grow some balls.
If you think my comment is a 'personal insult' then you really need to get out more.
Somebody (like moi) who believes STO to be a steaming pile of festering pus has just as much right to post their opinions about it, as you do. Only you're making yourself look even more pathetic defending it with nothing but anti negative opinion comments as if you're being paid by the devs, or as if you have some personal debt to the game.
Would you like a tissue?
I like 'Anana' tho.

Those would be meteoroids in the picture, not meteors. A meteor is something that has entered the atmosphere of a celestial body, where as meteoroids are objects traveling through space (usually left over from comets).

Actually they look more like Asteroid belts consisting of both Asteroids and Meteoroids, though to be left over bits that didn't get used in forming a planet.moon and left floating in space in a stable orbit.Only occasionally havng "bits" break off to become meteors when hitting a planets atmosphere.Like the blet between Mars and Jupiter in our Solar System.Nerdy Astronomy lesson over...carry on!

The subject's been commented on, in passing, by one of the developers; I don't have the link handy, but I can summarize from memory. When they did their first builds of the game, space was a lot emptier ... and the first testers complained of feeling dizzy and disoriented. The genuinely excessive amounts of crap -- and the amounts genuinely are excessive -- are there to give players who deal poorly with true 3D navigation a horizontal plane to navigate against and to give them a sense of movement. It's not my favorite feature; this is the one (and only one) area where I like EVE Online's implentation better, just enough stuff to establish a plane and give a sense of movement, not enough to completely take over your screen.

It would be easier to not put it in if that were the case. It doesn't bother me. It wouldn't kill them to put less in though.
