Need for Speed World releases new art and trailer

Need for Speed World is the upcoming MMO from EA games, and while things on that front have been fairly quiet, we have a feeling that's about to change. This morning EA released a new game trailer, a handful of screenshots, and box art, and so far we like what we see.

The trailer is full of pretty graphics, fast cars, and destruction of public property -- what's not to love? (We particularly enjoyed the fleet of cars blowing past a 45 MPH sign at considerably more than 45 MPH.) You can work with or against other players, racing as a team or singly, and the game also promises "epic online pursuits," depicting a car chase with police cars that are presumably NPCs.

Of course, a game is much more than looks -- in the end, it all comes down to how well it's is done. Follow along after the jump for a peek at the trailer. For a second I was like... Wait NFS? Am I on Joystiq? Then I remembered that this is an MMO.

Judging from the video. It looks like a standard hyper-fast NFS game, except at the end you get an ability that blows cars off of your position. I would rather see an online racing MMO more to the tune of Gran Turismo. This just looks like an massively online version of Burnout Paradise.

Motor City Online was the original Need For Speed MMO, and quite frankly, any new NFS MMO is going to have a hard time topping it. The realism and detail of customization of the vehicles was absolutely stunning.

I really miss MCO.

Oh man I loved MCO as well. But ultimately that game died because of the lack of an Avatar. Sure you was only as good as the car you drove. And the damage modeling and customization in that game was awesome. But it was plagued with lag in races as well. The muscle car/ drag strip was nice, but I feel that for a game like this to suceed they really need to flesh out all forms of racing. From muscle, classic, drag, street, rally, to even having customization options to extreme that ppl can literally hold car shows in game and be judge for creativity and style by popular vote. Then sell their cars for cash! MCO you could really do this! Alas, all you could recognize somone by was their Nickname only. There wasn't even a avatar icon you could use or guilds to join.

The community elements in that MMO was lacking and ultimately led to it's demise. To bad too. Let's hope they learned from their mistakes. Plus this by EA folks, They are pretty finicky with MMO's! If this game doesn't have fantabulous results. EA will prolley can the project just as quickly as they started it. Look at Earth and Beyond and MCO... Yeah they don't exist anymore. so you can stop looking :P

I've gotten to be a right MMO skeptic these days, but I'm sure this game will be terrible

I don't know what this is going to offer me above what Blur seems to be offering and it is free after purchase.

What level will I be able to duel wield?

Anybody's browser crashing when trying to sign up after profiling the system?

It looks dumb. I only say this for the simple reason that not a single writer on Massivlely ever has the cohones to say it themselves.

Unless they are having more of a social aspect beyond just races and the occasional police chase the game is going to get boring really quick.

Myself I'm hoping for a actual human avatar for either car shops or bars or whatnot plus a human model within the car, and alot of customization for the car from inside to outside to the engine bay to the trunk. That and I hope they try to address how most will most likely race within the game (bump and run if you will), its why I stay away from online race's in any of the NFS games it just got very annoying to constantly try to hold a line only to have some prick bump into me and focing me into a barrier only to have that person drive away to take a win if you will.
