Good news for Champions Online lifetime subscription owners today, as Cryptic is giving them some additional free perks simply for supporting the game. According to the developer, some of the upcoming lifetime-only features include an exclusive in-game chat channel, front-of-queue support any time a server is queued, a unique in-game title, an in-game VIP lounge for lifetime subscribers only and a special costume piece.
Curiously, the official forum post by StormShade says, "Here's some of what we're working on, exclusive to Lifetime Subscribers." which to us sounds like there could be something else for lifetime subscribers in the future. But even if there isn't any mysterious new feature, these new perks are a nice little surprise that came out of the blue -- which is always the best kind of surprise.
[Update: It appears that this offer stands for Star Trek Online lifetime players, also.]

I would like to know where you got those numbers? I am not here to defend or accuse anyone... it is just that when someone throws numbers out there I would like to know the source.

It's a nice gesture, but of those perks what will you ever get out of them?
Unique channel: Who seriously cares? What could you possibly have to say to lifetime only subscribers that you wouldn't say to everyone else?
Front-of-queue support: Okay this might have been a good perk, but when will CO or STO hit a server queue ever again? As far as I know CO never had one and STO only had them the first 2 weekends when they didn't have enough server hardware. Since those launches both games have lost very large numbers of their population. So unless they plan on downgrading and selling off their server hardware, there likely won't be server queues again unless they have a double xp weekend and activate all previous accounts in the same weekend.
Exclusive title: Okay I get having these, people who like collecting titles and showing them off will enjoy these. This works as long as the title isn't named "sucker" =P
Exclusive Lounge: A nice perk, lets you feel like you're a VIP which I assume is the point. But again the low populations, do you really want to socialize in a unique social zone by yourself?
Unique Costume: Good perk, especially considering CO already gave unique costume sets to lifers at launch. Again giving you something unique makes the lifer feel like a VIP. This will really feel valuable in STO where costume pieces are already rare (especially on Klingon side).
So overall a nice gesture to those who took a huge risk in buying a long term subscription considering the states both games launched in. With the hurting populations in both games, it's important to make the lifers feel desired since they might eventually wind up the only people playing the games. I'm surprised to see such a gesture after the trolling the two lead Dev's were doing last week when they made it seem like they didn't care how bad thier reputation in the industry truly is and thought it was a laughing matter while their games were slowly dying. Maybe that "interview" was what brought this all on?

I was surprised when I got the email, but it seems like a good idea.
The separate channel seems a little pointless, but an extra title and special costume pieces seem appropriate. The VIP lounge? Who knows. It could end up being an RP-only area like the club. It could host some special player-run events, though tbh I think the idea of 'lifers only' events to be a little ridiculous.
Overall, it's not super-exciting, but getting some minor in-game perks for being a lifetimer is appreciated.

I thought about the lifetime but three hundred bucks? I went with the proven mmo Lotro for only two hundred.

What I find hilarious, is that on both the CO and the STO forum threads, the majority of LTS's posting are saying that even *they* think the 'front of queue' perk is a bit on the nose.
"Someone paying a monthly sub has just as much right to be in the same place in a queue as us who bought lifetime." - LTsubber
Yup, Cryptic really know their customers.. (not)

I suppose this is a step forward for Cryptic, but what message does this send to the entire *paying* player base? that lifetimers are better then the rest of you and we don't really care if you're here or not? Did they just create an underclass in an MMO? Maybe that's a bit far but what about everyone that pre-ordered? what about all the people that didn't cancel after the free 30days?

excuse me but, didn't most of you said it was a giant leap of faith hat you wouldn't take?
Lifers did.

I was pleasantly surprised when i got the emails from CO and STO, I am a fan of veteran rewards type setup, and this nod to the loyalty and expense those of us with lifetime subscriptions have for the games is likely a precursor to such things in the future for all subscribers.
It doesnt fix the issues both games have, but it is welcomed all the same.
The only thing that would knock this seemingly kind consideration for us lifetimers by Cryptic is if that nagging suspicion in the back of my mind saying "I bet they offer lifetime subscriptions for a limited time again some time soon" comes true.
I hope not.

Because what would have been a nice nod to those who made the leap of faith at the start as a thank you, suddenly then becomes a generic nod to everyone disguising what would have been the real reason.
Which would have been to generate an immediate chunk of cash again, coinciding, coincidentally at the same time as the once paid for expansion is released free..
Hopefully they wont as I say and its just my pessimistic streak fearing the worst of such a seemingly genuine gesture, but Cryptic have sadly made a tendency of saying one thing, while doing another lately.

Way to little, much to late, going to be alot of empty vip lounges. I really doubt anyone will come back for what they just offered.....to any game. IMO lifetimers need a >huge< perk package, one that will support them into "endgame" and beyond, after all they are supporting their favorite devs......(laugh)
As for my lifetime LOTR sub i want a maxed out warg, gimme bitches, oh and orion fired.
