Omniverse Games has announced a new MMORTS set to go into closed beta soon. Excalibur Online is set in Britain shortly before the rise of King Arthur and Camelot, and players join the battle to "see for themselves if they have what it takes to unify Britain under their own banner, or if their exploits are doomed to be forgotten on the misty shores of Avalon."
You won't be the only one chasing that goal, however. The other players are after the same thing, which means you're going to have to fight for it. One of the highlights of the game is the Battle for Avalon, in which player armies duke it out on the island of Avalon in the hopes of winning glory both in game and in the forums.
Excalibur Online gives players the opportunity to build their armies and empires from the ground up by collecting resources, building their cities, and discovering new technology. Check out their official site for all the details.
Closed beta begins March 18th.

More like nothing says 'pending lawsuit resulting in game failure'.

Wow, good eye! Well, if they are going to steal images from other games, I won't even bother to look into this game ever again. In theory the game sounded a bit fun, though it seems very amateurishly done, and has an item mall. An RTS with an item mall, that sounds very stupid since an RTS game needs more balance then most games since they are meant to be played on a level playing field.

To my knowledge, there haven't been any palm trees in Britain for some several million years, if ever.

Actually, palm trees do grow in the Britain. Accept they grow in on the southern coastal regions where the temperature rarely drops below freezing (this past winter being a rather odd exception) and The Gulf Stream keeps the air warm and moist. They don't however, grow inland as depicted in the image above.

Before the planet cooled off during the late middle ages, muck of Britain had a climate similar to the French wine growing regions. France had even banned English wine during the 13th century.

Is this not the same people behind Evony? Or even Kingdom of Camelot in facebook? I smell more self style graphic stealing as can be found in both afforementioned games.

Yeah, this one has the stench of Evony about it already. Massively should only be mentioning games like this in the same sentence as "top 10 titles to sh1t on and flush down the toilet"

1996 called. It wants its game back.

Massively puts stories like this up for the fun of sparking the readers reactions. It is good to discuss the garbage that gets put on the market; keeps things in perspective IMHO.

Hello,
I see that it took exactly 7 minutes for someone to notice the inappropriate (i.e. stolen) IP in the screenshot we sent to Massively. Gamedever and others, you are correct in your observations regarding the misuse of certain images. I wish to thank you for pointing them out, and to let you know that all of the artwork in Excalibur Online is now being reviewed, and that the vast majority is going to be replaced before we begin the closed beta test. Apparently it seems that for some Chinese art outsourcers original means modifying something with Photoshop so it looks slightly different, then hoping no one notices. This is not good enough for for the US market and not good enough for my company.
We will have to push the CB back a couple of days (not to mention serious overtime nights and this weekend for our internal art team) to make things right. I'm glad this problem was caught early enough so that no one outside my company has actually played the current version.
Excalibur Online is a free-to-play MMORTS. Our biggest competitor, and largest player in this space is thought by some to be less than ethical in certain aspects of its operation. Obviously our strategy of holding out a superior alternative and possibly attracting some of their player base would be doomed to failure if we acted in a similar manner ourselves. So thanks again all who pointed out our error, and I encourage you to get in touch if you have any comments.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Seidenfeld
