Definitely a great write-up there; I love those guys at Darth Hater. They got an interview, where I was just plopped in front of a computer and left to play :) I think it's certainly important to read all of the impressions and perspectives.

Not a criticism of your work either Shaun, thank you for writing this up, any info is great!

I guess a question was, how did it feel compared to old/new SWG, could you guys do a comparison piece, as I think a lot of old SWG players would read this?

Darth Hater does first impressions better then anyone, just an amazing detail and perspective from a hardcore MMO players point of view, I love it! The minds behind Darth Hater need to cover other \MMO's in the future, they are the best at it.

I'm really excited for SW:TOR but I'm getting a little worried about whether or not they're actually going to deliver on some MMO standards. From the rumors that I've heard and the general feel that all the videos and previews have given, it seems like this game is going to go the way of a Guild Wars setup with mission hubs followed by instanced missions, which is fine for a pseudo-MMO without any monthly subscriptions but maybe not for one with. It's still pretty early on and Bioware hasn't let me down yet so we'll see as more is revealed.

Some of the articles linked above have actually allayed similar fears I had. They talk about exploration, huge zones, and seeing other people running around.

Don't get me wrong -- there will be instanced missions! But there are also shared spaces(and not just hubs, ala Guild Wars).

Daniel Erickson: Well, the sort of the final note on this is that one of the things people kept getting concerned about, and rightly so, is we showed flashpoints and that sort of stuff.

One of the real things we wanted to show at GDC this year is that our worlds are huge, actually. They are giant, you can explore. They are massive. You can just wander off one direction and go forever. There is tons of content there.

Wait, you guys were at Lucas HQ, Bioware Austin where the team is at or the GDC booth?

The article says they were at the LucasArts Presidio location, which is somewhere in San Fransisco. They didn't go to BioWare's studio in Austin or Skywalker Ranch or anything.

This Massively article was worse than the Eurogamer and Darth hater articles. It had way less information.

I would say that they are using some of the systems emplyed in WAR. The trooper uses Action points (as WAR does) and the stats have similar names. It's nice to see that they are using some of the good things WAR brought to the table.

The Eurogamer article had one of the devs mentioning that they are aware that crafting and other secondary activities are important in an MMO, so that leaves me hopeful that there will be some sort of crafting in the game and stuff to do besides the quests. PvP and group content will also be included.

The darth hater articles also mentioned that the map seemed really vast and allowed for a lot of exploration so we will have to see if that is true. I get the feeling the game will be more instanced than anything.

The mob AI seemed to be more evolved than the MMO standard. So i would say that they're making a decent game.

@ Mr Gutts: If you watch the livestream that Shawn was in, he re-tells the trip out to the Lucasarts campus in Presidio.

@ derella: Really? I got the opposite impression from the articles. Namely:
"..there's nothing massively-multiplayer about it. They've shown an appealing and obviously high-quality game, but they simply haven't shown us an MMO yet."

My feeling at this point, based upon the events coming out of GDC, is that the 'story' stuff is (so far) overshadowing any MMO elements.
Which is not something I'm ecstatic about, actually. :S

I guess you missed the part in all the articles where they mentioned that each of the persons that played, did so in their own version as if it was a single-plaer game.

The ones on Darth Hater(specifically page 2 of the Trooper Hands-on article) mention how vast the world of Ord Mantell is, discusses exploration, and mentions seeing other people running around the world while they are getting a quest from an NPC.

"Although we weren't playing together in the game, we were all set up in the same location to run the same mission."

They weren't playing together in the game. And i doubt they would have each of the writers playing in a different server in a game that is most likely still in Alpha. :)
