Sorry, but them going the F2P route with some crap developer got me very UN-EXCITED for this game.

I was very excited and waiting in anticipation until that news came along.

These guys can do code in their sleep. They are not a crap developer. The art looks pretty damn good.

If I want to do a barrel roll I want to bloody well do it by yanking my joystick over in combination with a bit of rudder....not tap left, left, right..WTF!?!?!

Damnit...I thought we were doing to get a decent bloody space combat sim out of this one....so close....everythign else sounded spot on....

I don't know if it means anything to you, but I have yet to see anyt of these maneuvers in the vids. And I think there is still room to convince them to take that out. It seems like the game is full 3D, and if there is enough of an uproar by the beta testers there is a shot and getting it yanked.

As much as I want to see more competition in the space genre, I can't help feel that the BP devs are falling for the same cheap tricks to slap together a half assed game as Cryptic and the Jumpgate Evolution devs.

Heavily instanced with negligible travel? Oh come on. STO tried THAT gag. And they are failing miserably.
Very little crafting focus? So, crafting is heavily linked to PVP contested harvesting nodes. Nope. Not a good idea for PVE'ers.
And what unique qualities are supposed draw players to a particular guild station? Difference in taxation? Oh please. AOC tried to keep people amused with building pointless guild keeps for no reason but for pvp, and that got boring real fast.
2 races with 2 storylines. Not very diverse.

Have they learned nothing from the likes of Eve and WoW?

"but while EVE Online has a heavy focus on the economy and political intrigue, and Star Trek Online boasts a slower, tactical approach to combat..."

Erm what? STO slower and tactical? Are you kidding?

So um...

Doesn't sound like much of a MMORPG to me, with all the instancing and everything... and the "maneuvers" thing is totally whack IMO.

It will have all the BAD parts of MMOs, the vets and "hardcore" will have the best weapons and ships on even the best, most skilled noobs will be lambs to the slaughter.

It was have no community outside of a few guilds vying for stations due to the instant-game finding mechanics like a FPS.

Could have been so much more... maybe it's the technology that is limiting their aspirations to be anything more then a FPS with game-rooms in space...

But honestly Privateer was more of a MMO and that was 10+ years ago and it wasn't even online.
