Big news for Final Fantasy XIV fans today, especially if you're biting your nails waiting to get into the beta. The official PlayStation Blog has announced that the initial production run of Final Fantasy XIII on the PS3 will come packaged with a special offer for an in-game item, and an extra shot at a potential beta spot for Final Fantasy XIV.
While it doesn't guarantee a beta key, anything that increases your chances of playing the game sooner is a good thing. But act now, because once those launch copies are gone, so is the offer.

Great news!
I can't wait to try out an asian mmo. I was so close to getting Aion, but didn't have time for that. Besides it doesn't seem to be my type of game (too much flying) after all.
Hopefully FFXIV will be the eastern mmo for me. I love the artistical style of asian games as long as the graphics are good. As for other asian MMO's, I'm not expecting Blade and Soul to reach Europe before at least 2012. Perhaps 2011 in Korea.
As for 2010, only this title and perhaps Cataclysm is worth looking foreward to.

There's a big difference between "An Asian MMO" and "A Japanese MMO" just in case you weren't aware. FFXI and something like Lineage 2 or Aion are two very different games because well, South Korean and the Japanese are very different cultures.
But yes, I'm looking forward to playing FFXIV. :)

indeed, you are right.
But I was more thinking visually. In that regard, their not that far apart.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I would love to play FFXIII, but I'm not going out to buy a PS3 just for this game that will sit around gathering dust otherwise. There's just not enough multiplayer RPG games for me to play with my husband on a console and that's generally what we prefer.
I guess I'll just have to hope and pray that they'll pick me :-(

So buy the cheaper and more fun xbox, and use it to stream netflix and movies and music you download (of course legal only). Totally worth the 200 bucks.

This just makes my decision to get the PS3 version all that more rewarding. Any way to increase my chances to get into the XIV beta is fine with me.

Having picked up my PS3 (of course) copy of FFXIII early this morning, and playing it pretty much ever since (that's over 18 hours so-far) I can say this:
FFXIII is like a new U2 album.
The anticipation is so high, you get it home, listen to it and say:
"Oh what? That's not what U2 are meant to sound like?!"
Then, 3 listens later, you swear they've written each and every track on the album especially for you, as you close your eyes and feel it move you from top to toe.
Play FFXIII on the biggest viewable thing in your house; it deserves it. =)

IMPORTANT FYI....
* If you have already applied for the FINAL FANTASY XIV beta test but would like to apply for the PlayStation 3 beta with a FINAL FANTASY XIV promotional code, please be aware that all previous applications will be invalidated.
Looks like promo code from FFXIII is only good for ps3 beta registration and would cancel your pc beta registration is used on same account.
Not positive is a thought just from looking at the site.

This is correct. I just registered on the website. You can only have one active application for the FFXIV beta, either for the PS3 or Windows. Using your 'special code' to apply for the beta is of no benefit unless you have not already registered for the PS3 beta and wish to do so now (although there may be other ways through the website. I'm not sure). (If you already registered for the Windows version beta, I'm assuming you intend to beta test the game on your PC and not on the PS3).

I call this nitpicking. Every game has a different style, and every studio does. Still I find simillarities. It doesn't mean you have to.
But I will leave it at that
