German game-maker Bigpoint has just announced its forthcoming MMORPG based on the SyFy Channel's popular Battlestar Galactica reimagining. The company, owned in part by NBC Universal which also owns SyFy and consequently the Galactica brand, plans on releasing the game later this year. Bigpoint representatives broke the news at GDC today.
"We believe in the value of IP, and the second thing we believe in is cross-platform," said Bigpoint CCO Nils-Holger Henning. Hit the link to read the full write-up courtesy of Gamasutra's Christian Nutt.
Stay tuned to Massively this week as we'll have an interview with Bigpoint and more details as GDC rolls on.

I don't know how they can do this without fraking it up. Are we going to find out there were other Battlestars? If its set on Galactica the story is already set and I really don't want to get in the middle of that.
The only way I could see this working is if its set 40+ years before the TV Series during the first Cylon war.

Holy Frakk! This came from nowhere. Aargh, I'm torn: love, love BSG but a decent MMO from it? How? Are any of the creative staff from the television show involved? Total brainsplosion to be honest.

"The company's mission, says Henning, is "all games must be browser-based without download installation, games you can play from any device you want."
I can't say this quote gives me much hope for this game. But that's OK, since I didn't like the IP much anyway.

Stargate is a better franchise for an MMO, and look how that went.
If it does come to pass and everyone plays tall blond cylons... Well, it might end up being rather an awkward game.

This is most likely going to be browser based and made on a dime sized budget. For gods sake this is going to be so low budget and will not deserve what this fantastic series was able to do with artisitic integrity. FRAK! There are free lancers mods that are better than what this will be for BSG!

Wouldn't it be funny if this MMO actually was done right and became a huge success?
But we all know (those of us who frequent Massively) that the likelihood of this is less than 1% . LOL.
