I feel your pain about APB, I was one of the biggest contributors in their community and I didn't even receive a beta invite =(

The only reason why I am looking forward to GDC10 is because Valve might shed some more light on Portal 2. But I'm positive there'll be other revelations that I first read about afterwards, but will be enthusiastic about.

Are we allowed to predict the future of social networking games and how they're going to take over the world?

While iPod/iPhone/iPad games may be a gigantic (and growing) market I can't imagine that they are at the level of budget/timeline of any of the developers at GDC.

While large developers are definitely jumping on this bandwagon even their games for that market are relatively tiny and straightforward.

I originally thought that Vigil/THQ would be revealing the Warhammer 40k Online MMO at the GDC10 this year; however, after taking a second look at this article, ( http://pc.ign.com/articles/107/1071607p1.html ) I seem to have misread/misinterpreted the revelation info. According to the above, the game will be officially announced/revealed at E3 in the summer, and not the GDC next week.

Other than that, here's a pretty definitive list of predictions from the guys over at IGN. The list includes Crysis 2 (on the Crytek Engine 3), Portal 2, new motion controllers for the PS3 (a la Wii-motion), a new Metroid, and Deus Ex 3. ( Source: http://pc.ign.com/articles/107/1074266p1.html )

WH40k reveal planned is going to be the highlight of the show I think, though Funcom will show some actual game footage & it will be received really well.

APB might be a surprise, though I think it will be seen as much more of a casual shooter like GA than a MMO style persistant world type game.

I think the fact that it's possible to view APB as either of those two things is actually a big strength. Many of my ex-MMO player friends become interested with I tell/show them the game, but then grow exponentially more interested when I mention there's no subscription -- just a one-time box purchase.

I honestly think more games will try the same formula & even some older ones adopt it, I think WAR suits that model much better than the one it uses currently, from it's past & even current design it really feels like a casual "jump in, jump out" style of game.

APB has more than just a 1 time purchase you will still pay something just not in the monthly sub type of payments
http://www.apb-evolved.com/news/112-apb-evolved-wednesday-03032010 :

AtlantisThief - After having a lot chat with a friend about that game, he started to confuse me totally. I said "buy 2 play, then free 2 play (not monthly fee). He said "free 2 play" (no buying, just playing and doing micro transactions). How is it going to be now?

OK so I’ve seen a number of questions regarding payment model and release dates (apologies to Atlantis, for choosing yours, but hopefully this will clarify where we are right now).

First off, in answer to your question, we haven’t released any information on the payment model for APB. Anything you might hear is pure speculation at this point. What I can say is that APB will be sold at retail (so you will need to buy the game). It’s a server based title, so there will be ongoing costs. However, we won’t force you in to any sort of monthly payment, nor will it be a “traditional free to play with microtransactions” model. All I can say is keep your eyes and ears peeled for announcements.

Maybe they are going to go with Episodic or some other type of Downloaded paid content, or something like costume packs.

Prediction: There will be a special dinner event for MMO devs-

The guys from HiRez studios will show up and wonder why their names aren't on any of the place cards. When they ask for help they will just be told that their names are, in fact, at a table and they just need to redefine the terms "table" and "place card" before they can sit down. They'll eventually just decide to sit outside in the desert and pretend that's what they meant to do the whole time.

Cryptic will try to show up too but will be unable to arrive as a group because every time they walk through a door they are all magically split up into different rooms. When they figure out how to get into the same room they will be out of luck because the room is full. They will finally leave in frustration when they find out everyone else who bought tickets gets a whole meal, while they, after paying the same fee, have to buy each course ala-carte'

Adventurine will only make it to the first course of the meal before being kicked out for starting a food fight. It will have been the most epic food fight imaginable, but apparently a few whiners in the room just wanted to eat. Damn carebears! The food fight will continue for at least a year across the forums.

Love,
Hippie

I believe the SWTOR prediction is right on, if they reveal anything, it will be them revealing that they will reveal new gameplay video at PAX, and that is it.

I'd love for Red 5 Studios to finally have something to say, I have never seen such a secretive development group, assuming they even truly exist anymore.

Only prediction I have is some developer we did not expect will announce they are working on an MMO, but no more info about this MMO will be revealed.

Red 5 definitely still exists. Even put up some new concept work on the site to give you a little taste of what to expect.

Well, At some point TSW will have a pretty big reveal, which is a known fact, its been mentioned quite a few times in a few interviews, and RT's tweet said that he had just finished the presentation for GDC last week or so.

We would be treated with full color in-game footage, and hopefully a lot more info about TSW that will involve its combat system, quest system, crafting system, and PvP system.

cross our fingers! o.o
