It seems like just yesterday when players were battling their Digimon against friends, evolving their pets into even more powerful monsters... Thankfully, for those of us who may have gotten older but haven't quite grown up, the Digimon MMO, Digimon Battle, has opened up their beta sign-ups. Who says you can't go back!
In this game you'll start your own tamer based on one of the ones from the series, customizing them as you go. Initially you'll only start out with a choice of three Partner Digimon: Gigimon, Gummymon, and Viximon. The other partner pets -- Yamon, DemiVeemon, Dorimon and Hopmon -- will have to be unlocked by participating in in-game events. From there, it's all about taming other pets and testing your skills against other tamers as you adventure, as well as defeating evil Digimon!
If you're interested in checking it out, be sure to pop by the Digimon Battle site and get signed up. We've also gotten an updated trailer from the last one (although a chunk of it is the same as before) which we tucked behind the break.

It's not going to be appreciated, but I've gotta say it. The few gameplays clips in that trailer (vice the more prevalent cut scenes) look pretty terrible.

I'm not opposed to a Digimon game (I was a fan of the series back in the day), but dang...that trailer looked bad.

Ugly.
You think they would have done a Pokemon already, if done right that would be a big time MMO.
And you guy's really need a log-in system. I hate this comment system. Sucks.

Looks like a kiddy version of Atlantica. I don't know about you, but I just can't go back to turn based games anymore unless they are single player with a HEAVY focus on great story-telling. That style of gaming just isn't interactive enough to be very fun in an MMO setting.

Hmm, I would check this game out (I was a big fan of Digimon when I was a kid), but there doesn't seem to be any way to sign up for the beta on their website, the link in this article only leads to a download page. (If I am meant to download the game before I even know if I've been accepted to the beta, the site doesn't make this obvious to me at all.)
Overall, the website seems badly translated... I mean, honestly, "Are you ready for becoming a legendary hero?" Try hiring someone who actually speaks English next time. I don't expect the game itself to be any better.

Actually, the manual and the in-game text should be as good as gold, given how many late nights I spent working on it. I did some other bits and pieces for it too, but definitely no website text.

Well now, I wasn't really expecting a response, but in that case -- how DOES one sign up for the beta? The website does not explain this anywhere.
I work on localization myself, so I can totally appreciate how hard it can be sometimes -- and how annoying it is when your website team doesn't appreciate good grammar.

I can't count the number of projects I've worked on where the website is either the client's very highest priority, or their very lowest. So strange.

Ah yes - about the beta sign-ups - unfortunately, I've no idea myself! But having spent so much time pouring over screenshots of it, I can safely say that Digimon Battle RPG on the PSX/PS2 is still going to beat the pants off it. This thing is like, pixel heaven! :D

So, the game was released in Korea in 2002. If anyone remembers the state of Korean MMOs at that time, that should be warning enough.

2002 was just the beta, it was improved until a Dec 2003 release. After that it's been updated weekly and is still going, so it's not that bad, not bad at all.
Signing up is easy. Go to the home page of digimonbattle.com. You see where you can log in on the right? "Are you new?" should be below that. Click on it, make an account, and you are good to go.
...And I like how the Beginner's Guide has pretty much perfect English (lower left hand corner, click that box, you'll see it then) compared to the rest of the site.
