They don't just delete accounts for no reason. Either you are wrong, and your account is still there and you just forgot the password, or someone hacked your account and so now owns it (which they've given a million warnings and notices about setting your info so that you can retrieve your account to your email address for years now), or you did something in game to get yourself deleted like cheating or some other rule breaking. It sounds a lot like you just forgot your password really but again if you had that much maybe someone hacked you. You should have followed the safety rules and set up your account so you could retrieve your password and things.

I'm in the same boat, I've long since forgotten my password and can't face starting from scratch. I've tried the password recovery system without any luck and I think I set up my account before they had the email option. Shame really as I'm at a bit of a loose end MMO wise at the moment.

Mewmew this was about 4-5 years ago that i started the account i then played the game about once a month for an hour or so, there wasnt all the same security options like email address or secret questions back then when offered them i saw no need to fill them in considering i didnt have much (other than money) so i didnt now the password recovery system has changed therefore not allowing me to retrieve my account, also my friend was inactive for 9 months came back he remembered everything perfectly but his account was completely gone so yes they do delete accounts.

I'm not that thrilled. Runescape hasn't done this before, and so it's always kept the XP meaning something. It has always taken the same amount of work, forever, to level up skills. There is no Cash Shop type item to make things faster. Being a paid account doesn't speed it up. For Runescape's whole existence, it has taken the same amount of work to level up. Now they are doing this, it sort of cheapens the whole experience really. I'm personally not going to log on at all during this event because I want to hold my head high and gain my xp the same way everybody else has for years on end now. You know how some car companies never gave rebates, and it made it so the cars value was always higher because of that? The trade ins were always more valuable, there was never a time someone could get it cheaper.

Now there's this weekend where people can get XP at nearly 3 times the rate for 10 hours. Maybe it doesn't seem like a lot, but you're basically cutting off 20 hours of work which is a long time for some people. I really was happy that they never did these kind of things and the experience was always measured by the same amount of work. Now they're cheapening the experience, in more than one way. I wish they just kept up the way it's always been and not did this.

I am also a bit surprised with this bonus XP, but I am not sure if it's for the better or not. See, being a paid account DOES speed it up. You can't argue that members have a lot more effective ways to train, which is why the average leveled paid account with an average amount of money in p2p (say, a barrows set) will be considered very rich high level in the free game.
There is one thing I am sure of though - this will be a one time offer, or it will be a rare occurence. They won't start doing it every week. They won't do it every month. I'm pretty sure it won't happen every 6 months either.
This bonus xp isn't that bad. Casual players get triple their effort for the weekend, and keeping in mind that they don't really compete with the hardcore player base and don't race for the maximum total level of 2376, this will only be a handy boost for them. They aren't really going to "hold their heads high" as you because they don't compete with anyone. As for competitive players, this bonus xp isn't really much. It is a drop in a big sea of experience, especially for the most hardcore player base willing to train beyong the level of 99.
And yet, this somehow breaks the trend. Personally, I will play a bit during this weekend. If I find the time.

After 9 years of this game (8 for me) the complaints, no matter how well put, never change.

The thing about Runescape is that as an MMO you almost never have to interact with others, and the tools for working in groups are much more primitive than other MMOs.

So what is one of the number one complaints of any feature or change? "Others have it easier than I had it. My past experience is cheapened."

Honestly! Games should be treated as a hobby into which an individual chooses to put time. An XP bonus weekend is a better use of my time for where I am in the game right now. It isn't a punishment of me for the previous 8 years of game play. It certainly isn't a threat to my identity relative to the thousands of players who have a much less well developed character than I do.

If you really think the XP bonus cheapens the game I think you have your priorities out of wack.
