Tough road to travel. The promotion probably is (was) a good thing for the game, but I'd be burned at paying 30 bucks extra for being a loyal customer too.

Cryptic is all about the box sales it seems.

Cannibals.

Now not only was Cryptic making it hard for new players to enjoy or get into their games, but it seems their fans and player community have learned from them and decided to do the same. What irony.

As a potential new player, I think I'll pass on a game that has both a seemingly confused, misguided developer AND a bitter, upset community altogether.

the thing that pissed the community off is that it was announces less then a month after launch... a year or so down the road big friggin deal, use it to bring in new customers. When the people who pre-orderd are still in their first free month, it was a complete slap in the face.

Even with this discount or lack thereof, I would still pass on it. I will continue to wait patiently for them to straighten out their games (Champions too). Both games are lacking way too much in the content department. I would like to see them turn these games around like AoC and DDO.

I could care less really about how much the community whines, as it is usually the vocal minority. Just make your games better please!!

I don't wanna be "that guy", but yeah, I was going to buy it with the promotion. $40 for a game, even if I only played it for the free 2-3 months, is well worth the dollars.

I went through the "on the site, going to click to buy, can't find the 60 day deal" rigmarole, before seeing this fallout emerge.

Way to go, you petulant fanboys, you saved me $40 and having to suffer joining a community that includes you.

Good, STO really doesn't need yet another pissy complaining name calling person added to their community, so it's a good thing you aren't going to join.

I really highly doubt the little extra free time was going to get you to purchase the game anyway, you very much just seem like a person posting to Troll.

Cryptic just can't seem to do much right lately. It seems they really don't know the gaming community at all.

Less than a month after it's out, they want to give people 60 extra free days. Great, what about us? We get the shaft because we had enough faith to pre-order? Give all of us paying them money right now 60 extra free days too, then we'll be happy. I'm not paying extra for a game while they try some silly little move to get more players this early in the game. Heck if it was 3 or 4 months down the road, I wouldn't care, but within the first month of the game coming out? They have had great sales too, they don't even need to do this.

Don't make out like we spoiled anything for you (and by we, I don't really mean me because I didn't complain on their boards, I'm still going to play no matter how they burn me, I already don't have faith in them and don't plan to stay with them long term because of all their stupid moves, one more isn't making me leave any earlier). Anyway, they would have lost more customers than they would have gained. People are sick of this crap and are actually ready to take a stand and mass exodus away from games. It happened to Allods already. There is too much for us to play for us to have to take this kind of crap now.

They make me feel like I'm getting ripped off. My free month isn't even over yet, and they want to give you 60 extra? No way. I'm not paying for you to come on my servers and play for free this early in release when I had to pay full price. You pay too, you cheapskates. This just was not needed to be done now, how did anybody think it would make the current players feel? We're paying while you're going off on a bunch of free months? That's BS. We are the ones that had faith enough to pre-order. If I can return it and then re-buy it and get the free time and money off, fine.

Anyway like many people said, it was the timing. It's definitely too early for this. How would you like to pre-order something, get it and have them say "Great! Thanks, and here you go! Have fun with your 30 days!" and the person behind you in line you hear "Great! Thanks and here you go! Have fun with your 90 days and $10 off!" Because it feels like you are just behind us in line. It hasn't been out long enough for this to happen. Could they do it if they want? Sure, but we can leave their game and complain if we want too. I love that our opinions actually force things to happen.

We don't need more trolls there either, we have enough, thanks.

OMG! I think I lost a few IQ points by reading mewmew's diatribe. Remind me to head warp factor 10 in the opposite direction if ever you are in the same sector.

Don't tar all STO player with the same brush. As an STO player myself, I feel almost embarrassed by a fellow community member going on like that. *sheesh*

I didn't expect any less from this studio, they don't care their customers really, just the new ones. Not saying others do, but they really try and hide it. All the finger pointing in the world between Atari and Cryptic won't make amends, customer don't give a shit about the business dealings, it's about the game and the customer experience.

Of the two resolutions, match the deal for existing subscribers or pull the deal, they went for the one that didn't really benefit anyone.

What is more worrying is that whoever is selling this game feels the need to 'experiment' just one month after release....

Cryptic ... Damned if you do. Damned if you don't. No matter what they do people will find any reason to be angry at them.

Touche.

My beef with NCSoft is that they cancel games that show the slightest signs of not doing too well ... Zander not even allowing the game to live after a lifeline is offered to them.

At least Cryptic have the balls to keep hammering away and trying to improve their product ... even if (and this is something that IS their fault) they have released the product too early.

On the one hand, Cryptic still and will always fail when it comes to planning ahead.

On the other hand, too bad for you if you jumped on the bandwagon early and didn't get access to this promotion. Time to grow up, kids!

The original deal was for an additional 60 days of play time, meaning new subscribers would pay $40 for the game and 90 days of play.

The first controversy came from current subscribers, who felt unwarranted entitlement and demanded "justice" in the form of free time for everyone. As if a good deal for new players was exactly the same as a punishment for original subscribers.

In the face of forum nerd rage, Cryptic withdrew the deal.

The second controversy came about when players who purchased STO during the promotion wondered if they would actually receive 90 days of play time. First indications from bug tickets reported that no, the deal had been retroactively retracted. More recent dev posts on the forums have reported that no, those replies were incorrect, and that the 90 day offer would be respected.

So, no more controversy. And Cryptic gets in more hot water, for offering a really good deal. Now that's true injustice.
