For those of us who played Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the name Taris will immediately spark up some memories of those first few hours of playing the original game that started it all. Taris, for the record, was an ecumenopolis (or city-wide planet) much like Coruscant, only unlike the more famously known hub of the galaxy, Taris was destroyed and forgotten during the events of KOTOR.
This week's new Developer Dispatch video covers the dev team's efforts to make a uniquely post-apocalyptic zone for Star Wars: The Old Republic, and it really delivers. Even if you haven't had the pleasure of playing KOTOR, we think Taris is going to be something to really look forward to -- except perhaps those Rakghouls.
Find the video below the break.

Not getting a Taris vibe from what was shown at all. I haven't played it yet of course so my opinion means jack... but it just doesn't feel like Taris post apocalypse or not.

Anyone else feel like they're adding a 'post-apoc' planet because of the recent surge in popularity of the PA genre? It seems like - and I think it's unfortunate - that they're trying to jump on the bandwagon here. I mean, they do say the initial plan was to make it a swamp...now all of a sudden PA is surging and "hey, lets turn it into a ruined city".
Hmm..that was rather condescending of me. Hope it isn't taken too negatigvely - I am just unsure whether I'll play SWTOR yet. I hope Taris does end up looking good, either way, but when I think of Star Wars I don't think of Fallout 3.

All the concepts and storyline for the world I imagine were created a couple years back, so I doubt any recent success of this style of world would have been a factor in their decision to recreated Taris in such a manner.
I think this is really cool to see what they dream up in creating a mega city 300 years after it was destroyed, the early concept screens they gave us were brilliant in my opinion, I bet they are having a lot of fun creating Taris.

So, outside of a reason to include it in this game, what took the republic so long to start rebuilding Taris? Looks awesome.

A city-wide planet? Or a planet-wide city?

Neither anymore. Now it's just a whole lot of ruins.
