While we may not have much insight into design decisions in terms of game art for Star Trek Online, there are certainly amusing things to be discovered while you're out exploring the galaxy. Take for example this well-armed crew sent in to us by Morti, who writes: This is my alt character, Faith. She's a little pink haired Unknown, created after I found out there were advanced options to the pose of the character. I find it really funny how nothing scales down to her size in Star Trek Online, so the rifle is pretty much as big as she is; and the phaser pistol is as big as her arms. She's an Engineer officer, so it will be really fun to have her captain-ing the biggest cruisers of the game.
If you've found something silly in your favorite MMO, we'd love to see a screenshot of it. It's easy to do! Email them in to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name, the name of the game, and a description of what we're seeing. (Please make sure your images are at least 1024 pixels across and has as little UI showing as possible.) We'll post it out here on One Shots for everyone to enjoy and give you the credit.

That screenshot only set the player back 20 Cryptic Points.
I'm sorry, but someone had to go first.

Speaking of scaling... "Petite" is how I felt in many of the in-ship rescue missions. The ship hallways and doors seemed huge -- they felt almost as big as space stations (which were already inappropriately scaled compared with what was seen in the movies/shows IMO). Probably far down the list of "fixes" but have they addressed that?

This is a necessary side effect of 3rd person view camera angles. There is perhaps some tweaking to be done, but over-sized doors and hallways are a given in games like this. Though I agree that it's one thing to see in Ironforge in WoW or Italy in Assassins Creed, its pretty noticeable in ship interiors where we have become accustomed to the corridor dimensions over the years.

Yeah I've heard that reason from everyone but Cryptic. Unfortunately, it's not correct. There are creative ways around it. Having the scaling so out-of-whack is another sign of a rushed game. Look at most other MMOs. If you're indoors you cannot zoom out as much. For example, housing in LotRO, small buildings like the auction house in WoW, small structures in AoC, etc.
In STO, whether you're on a ship, or in a space station, there's no feeling of the ceiling above you. I haven't really geeked it out yet, but I wonder if the scaling jives with the ship specs.

Well of course the gun isn't going to change size just because you yourself are small. These are pre-manufactured guns made at the same size every time. If a little person holds a gun, it doesn't turn small just because they hold it (it would be goofy if the guns changed size with the character and make no sense - yes I realize they tailor the suits to fit them, but you can't just compact the gun and have it work the same). My main is almost as small as you can get, and I love how the big guns look being carried around by her/me. I wouldn't want them to magically shrink just because I held them.

Hopefully they don't fix this part. I'm so sad Blizzard phased out the over sized weapons that sometimes cropped up : / My Belf Ret always looks like it's wielding a 2 handed dagger instead of a 2 handed sword, very annoying.

I can't see them changing it. It wouldn't fit into the world really. I didn't see them making different sized rifles in case a smaller person was on board in Star Trek, they are always the same size. If they could be smaller, they would be (it would be easier to carry around a smaller weapon afterall). They're manufactured at a specific size. It's like saying to make an AK-47 for little people. It's not going to happen, it's going to be the same size.
